Just writing to say that earlier I crashed my bike while going round a roundabout. I didn't hit anything which was nice and I was wearing jeans and a leather jacket so I only have a slight leg injury which might be a sprain.
It's raining down here in Kent and my mate came round on his new moped so I went off for a ride. Round the corner of my road there is a roundabout and it was soaked. Unfortunately I leaned a bit too far over and the bike just slid out from under me. The bike only has some scratches here and there i.e bottom fairing, exhaust, brake lever, etc and suprisingly the bike was still running after it hit the ground.
What was nicer was that a guy from a shop near the roundabout who is a biker came running to ask if I was alright and picked up my bar end from the middle of the roundabout. So thanks to him and thanks for not being a prick because I was on a 50cc ped.
But there is a lesson to be learnt, if you don't wear protective gear you will end up a lot worse than if you did.

Glad you are not hurt badly I wish more people would wear proper protective gear. I see so many people around here riding motorcyles wearing shorts,T-shirt & a helmet. Fools. I dont leave home with out mine. Er well, heh-heh, unless it happens to be over 85 degrees (F or 117C) (I have been known to forego protective gear a few times due to extreme heat. ) None of the scooter riders around here wear any protective gear . Except helmets, they all seem to wear helmets. Although I see one guy that rides a Yamaha scooter, who wears a bicycle helmet (doofus) I dont know a lot about bicycle helmets, but I dont think that they are built to the take the kind of impact that a motorcycle helmet is made for. Would'nt catch me whizzing along at 45mph wearing one of those . Anybody know anything about bicycle helmets & what they are rated for?

For the record there is no law that demands eye protection in the U.K., but any shield in front of eyes inc. spectacles, goggles or visors have to be marked complying with a minimum of B.S 4110-1979. Why do people insist in making up their own laws, I see some one in TAG says that its the law new bikes need to ride with head lights on. Admittedly this person was throwing his teddy out of the pram about his bike, but don't we have enough legislation thrown at us already with out people making it up as they go along and giving these jobs-worth government do-gooders more idea's?

By the way, I am pleased you came through relatively unscathed, and the bike too! I never trust any tyre in the wet, unfortunately you found out why. Now just get back on the horse and ride it................................

Just been on the phone to a traffic copper friend of mine to check the facts, it seems what I said is right, but he pointed out that it is quite legal to wear specs under a visor, but technically not the instance you lift your visor if the specs do not conform to BS 4110. Petty or what?

i was of understanding that
a helm with no visor means you must wear goggles and they must have an eu safty mark on them so they dont shatter in your eyes causing you to crash and then a massive pile up = kill 434322311.1 people and a dog
