The weather is starting to turn cold here. It is in the 40's most nights (we had a couple in the upper 30's last week.) The service manual recomends 15W40. I am afraid that this may be too thick for 20's-30's overnight temperatures (My scoot sits outside). Does anyone have any recomendations for what oil to use for cold temps? Thanks

I use the same oil all year round - is that wrong? Not necessarily . The thicker the oil, the longer the oil takes to warm up & circulate through the engine. If you just hop on & roar off in cold temps, oil may not get up into the engine right away. I always let my scoot warm up for a couple minutes before riding. If you listen to the engine you can tell when the oil starts to circulate, as the engine will quiet down. Most of my expeience with engine oil comes from diesel trucks. Our trucks run 15w40 & we always run lighter weight oil (SAE30) in cold temps. So I am assuming that the same might hold true for these little engines. Feel free to correct me if that is not true.

Hey there, I used 10w30 last winter and all the time. Now that my kit is broken in I'm switchin to mobil 1 synthetic.
The oil instantly gets shot up into the valves when the scooter is started. Of course it's not up to temp yet, but if you have the cover off and try to estart it you'll know what I mean!

Hey there, I used 10w30 last winter and all the time. Now that my kit is broken in I'm switchin to mobil 1 synthetic. Hi, I just changed my oil Sunday. Decided to put in Castrol full synthetic 10W30 with a dash of Lucas oil stabilizer for good measure. I noticed a difference this morning (36 degrees F ) when I fired it up over the 35 degree morning we had last week. Oil definitely got up top a lot faster! I will be sticking with the synthetic for sure I dont know if I will go back to a heavier oil come spring or not What do you run in the summer?

Can Anyone in the UK reccomend oil for the engine and gearbox for my Taishan XT 50 Sport for winter.? Bearing in mind it has only clocked up 1mile. Might aswell change the plug and oils whilst i wait for registration. The chinese oil is a tad dodgy from posts in the forum.
