#dunno#There is definitely gearing on these scoots, it is in the final drive of the rear hub #13# you could say there's gearing, but not conventional gearing.......see the animation below www.teamcalamari.com/zuma/variator.html............... #sprint#

What do you think the gear oil in the rear hub is for? You should read chapter 10 of the owners manual entitled "The final transmission assembly"

yes, but for the newbie, I would'nt say go alter the final drive gearing.....my previous post was to give a basic introduction to variator, and explanation of rollers and variator operation...... doesn't sound like a gearing problem, more likely carb settings or other related problem........

I just wanted to clarify and clear up any confusion, and say yes, there is conventional gearing #dunno# #13#

Ok thanks for your input everyone about gearing but lets not get into a big debate about what type of gearing i have/havent. I still have a problem and i am pretty certain it is either a carb or a vavle problem. I am due its first oil change at 200 miles this surely wont make that much difference will it? Please any help or advice on a really sluggish Taishan 50..Ta everyone

Have you checked your valves? That was suggested earlier.
I tightened mine in to .05mm last week and lost 5 hp! My scoot isn't as noisy now though!

2.2hp if you're lucky....sounds like your valves have tightened, set the valve clearances to 0.05, do it on a cold engine. could solve your problem............

I have been told it could well be a carb problem. It ran fine for the first 4/5 miles then appeared to slow down and stop. I pulled over and tried starting it about 3 times b4 it started and as and from then on has not been as smooth or fast definatly sounds like the valve clearances , exactly what happend to mine , the gaps close up over time when it's new , they are bedding themselves in , set them to 0.05

Hello everybody thats interested, I think i have managed to sort out my problem. Here is the list of work carried out - Lighter rollers. Strip and lube Torque converter. Oil change. Re- Positioned fuel cap (appeared to be air locked!!). It now flies off the speedo downhill and is far nippier uphill (about 25 mph!). Thanks to everybody for your input - And Happy Easter

Im back again with another minor problem!!! The Scoot has now done 800 miles and has been running fine since the last problem. It now has an irratic tickover. Upon stating from cold it does not want to tick over, it will start and rev quite high before the revs drop off without using throttle and eventually dies. It seems to run on the road ok but when coming to a standstill the motor will just stop. Sometimes it takes a few starts - but if left for a while it will start up no problem. I have changed the oil and Spark plug since last month. Thanks to anyone who takes time to read this. ADS218
