You're a star chap!! All it needs is one person to do it and post a few piccies then I bet every Baotian owner on here will be derestricting their scooters.

What a brilliant day, sun is splitting the sky and i've derestricted the scoot! Yipeeeeeee!! Manages 45mph no bother now! I'll keep up with those darn buses tomorrow! Only question is, does this derestricting do any harm to the wee engine? I'd hate to thrash the engine and the bike to die an early death. Any ideas folks, or is it just to keep it to the 30mph for insurance type purposes?

Well done weeyin!! I've heard that restricting the engine probably does more harm than good as the engine is never allowed to be stretched, it's like owning a car and only doing a top speed of 40mph - sometimes engines need to stretch their legs. The whole "restricting it to 30mph" is just so beginners can legally ride.

Excellent, thats what I was hoping. I've had sooooooo much fun today, think i'm in Greece today, out in the shorts and t-shirt, zooming about, glad I didnt fall off, but its so much better and sure to cut 5-10 mins off the journey to work, woohoo!

What exactly did you do to derestrict your Scoot weeyin?
It would be helpful for others to see what you have done and compare results.

I dont have a digital camera so i cant take any photos to show you but below is exactly what i did. I'm managing to get 45mph out the bike now easy, and almost more but i'm scared i fall off just now. what I did........... (sorry modified from another section but the instructions were so clear)
Where the battery is stored is a little black box with a white connector with different coloured leads coming out of it,snip the pink lead ( theres about 6 or 8 wires going into this wee box) and cover one end so it does not make contact again ( I cut it and taped it up with leckie tape) Next lift up the seat and undo the black cover, you are now looking down on top of the carb, (its a round black thing, bit smaller than the size of the base of a juice can). Undo the two little screws and take off this black cover, (watch the spring doesnt pop out and go missing) on the underside of this cover is the before mentioned spring and a plastic yellow and black washer, remove this, as you lift it out you'll bring the pin out, push the pin up through the washer and watch you dont loose the plastic white thingy. At the top of this pin you will see five small grooves pull off the thin half moon shaped washer and the tiny brass washer off the top groove CAREFULLY, its quite difficult, dont break it and replace on the centre groove, which is the third groove up from the bottom now put it all back together you should now have better acceleration and a better top end speed.
I'm finding it brilliant and the chugging has stopped at 30mph without the restrictor.

I don't have a pink wire- I think it's a different color. Does anyone have a schematic of the plug and which wire to snip?
It would be great if someone could provide a close-up pic of the plug.

You can tell if you have the correct wire by checking the one that comes out of the left hand side engine cover. It comes out near the big air hose, to the left as you look at it. This wire (usually pink) is the wire that sends the speed of the back wheel to the CDI, and therefore restricts the engine. This wire is covered in black sheeth, you will need to remove some to see what colour it is.
It would be good if you could let us know what colour yours is.

Maybe someone should ask the UK importer of Taishans about de-restriction, if they don't know I'm sure they could get an answer from the factory....?

Hello all, I have just bought a Baotian BTQT50 from Ebay, from a seller called: "WOODCHIP35". Did you buy from the same seller? I am desperately trying to de-restrict my scooter and am having great difficulty in doing so. I have snipped the pink wire, removed the brass spacer screw from the underside of the carb cover - I have looked at the pin and there don't appear to be any "notches" or "grooves" on it. Would you be able to get a picture of your needle/pin and post it so I can compare? It's really embarassing getting overtaken by buses going uphill . The speed drops to around 20mph uphill!! I can just about get about 32mph on the flat! If you or anybody else could help me I would be over the moon. Look forward to hearing from you or anybody else who can help. ;D Thanks, Matt

I have sent a quick guide I put together to your email address. I think you have done most of it, but there are pics of everything as you asked for. Don't forget your bike is new and will need running in, after this is done you should find it pick up better. Also change the variator roller for lighter ones, this will give higher revs and get you up that hill a little faster! The rollers you need are 16 x 13, 6.5 grams or 16 x 13, 5.7 grams. the lower the weight the higher the revs, BUT the more you need to service and maintain your engine (Credit: Cantlogin) Roller are available from a couple of places, www.beedspeed.com is one
