Hey all, I ve been enjoying the site and reading about the insurance and licensing required in the UK. Here in boston if the scooter is 50cc or under you do not need a motorcycle license or insurance just registration sticker which cost $20 a year Also a car license and your existing insurance covers the scooter. But if your scooter is above 50cc you need a motorcycle license If Im wrong about the licensing and insurance in the UK Im sorry dmilo

I wish we had your laws over here!! In Europe it's similar to owning a car, luckily for me if you passed your car driving test before February 2001 you don't need a motorbike test to ride a 50cc or under - if you didn't pass your car test before Feb. 2001 then you do need to take a bike test. I've been driving cars for 12 years and my last car was a Ford (Mercury) Cougar with a V6 engine yet the law here states I must take a motorbike test to ride a 125cc scooter.

Hello Ginger, first sorry, english is not my native language, but I hope you understand what I mean :-)
The regulations in the UK are not compareable to germany. (You say europe)
First: Every Car Driving Licence is valid for riding motorcycles up to 50cc max. 45km/h. (50km/h if the bike build before 2002 and 60km/h, if the bike is build at the former GDR, with first insurance not later than 1992)
Second: Peoples there made her car driving licence before 1.4.1980 can legal ride bikes up tu 125ccm and 15hp, without speed restriction.
Third: Insurance for a 50ccm Motorbike is (the cheapest I know) €56.- for one year, if all drivers min.25 Years old, else aprox. €60
I've 1. reading @ preloved about the insurence problems and was realy confused.
at the opposite: There is nealy no legal way to drive an deristrictet scooter here.
Anywhere...... Have fun scooting :-))

Welcome along Albatros!! I thought all European countries would have similar laws regarding scooters but obviously not? It seems that here in England you have to keep taking tests to ride a motorcycle with a bigger engine.

Welcome along Albatros!! Thanks It seems, that the new lizenses (over 50cc, car, truck) are realy equal, but at the 50cc class....confusing... even the insurance stroy. btw.: Another importend different here is, that's dosen't matters who manufactured the vehicle. Quite easy: If 50cc then €56 .

Hello John, welcome aboard!! I live near Great Yarmouth so anytime you want to have a look at my Taishan Commuter feel free. To start a new topic click on the button which say's New Thread, it's on the top-right of the page where you look at the list of topics and away you go. For spares in Norwich try Bandit Bikes, they're a Taishan dealer so getting parts to fit a Baotian shouldn't be too much hassle as they share a lot of parts, failing that buy a Taishan Sport instead of a Baotian and you'll have a dedicated dealer on your doorstep.
