Does anybody know if its legal to carry a 5ltr plastic petrol container in the underseat storage area of a scoot? (fits a treat), just wondering as the fuel tank on my scoot is only 5.5 ltr and I don't want to be going into the garage all the time to fill up, I was going to fill and keep the spare 5ltr in my shed.

Dont know if its ilegal, but not wise if your box heats up like mine does! I covered the inside of the tub (engine side) in baco foil to reflect the heat, before my sarni's turned up at the edges! I stuck it on with double sided tape, and now the box do'snt get warm.

i think another thing to consider is not the heat when under the seat but if you have a dink you are asking for trouble as it woudnt be secure

3 refills from one can? No wonder the question of carrying more has come up. What size are your tanks? My Sukida 125T3 has a reported 7ltr tank, although I have never filled it full from empty from a can, I have filled it with almost a 5 ltr can and it still had some in the tank! I cover just under 100 miles regularly (600ks on the clock) regularly without filling up. I did this exercise A: because I never trust gauges on any bike, & B if the gauge stops working I know when to fill up. I have carried 1ltr spare before I did the check, but dont bother now. 1 last point - check what weight the back carrier can carry, mine has a sticker warning 3kgs max, a can of petrol exceeds that.

water weighs about 10 lbs per gallon, petrol would be about the same, but before I bought my top box I used to tie my petrol container onto my little carrier go to garage to fill the can. I put the oil in the can first I used to put 25:1 mix I now use 50:1 mix and it seems to be better running. Also the oil that I buy has premeasured doses on the side of the bottle mak3es life simple. I never had any problems carrying extra weight. My tank is supposed to hold 3 litres but I top up when I feel like it usually daily, co's I dont have a guage on my bike.

I would of thought common sense might come into play here, whilst I dont think there are any laws regarding what you carry on your bike you must remember petrol is highly inflammable. As you have already stated that area gets hot. Heat and inflammable substances do not go together. All it would take was a small spillage from your petrol can to cause a fire owing to the heat. Therefore, you could be sitting on a flaming bomb. Hmmm, crikey, just the thought of its enough to be a pain in the bum. lol Then again you might like to go out with a Bang. LoL your choice your decision. Roflmao

The only thing I found was it is ilegal to hold more than 5Galls. of petrol wth-out a licence in the U.K. So the answer to your original question I would think would be : not ilegal but unwise.

petrol which is inflammable is safe in the tank, in a can under a back seat? take your chances if you got a second chance after a mishap, would you do it? you only got one life. who wants to push up daisies or spend the rest of thier lives disfigured.
