I have now joined the ranks of Chinese scooter owners after buying my Baotian BT 50QT-9 today. I picked it up personally from pitbike4all, near Newark, (Ebay name), their proper trading name is Cannon 2 Got it home, and the hardest part was removing the frame from around it. It required minimal assembly, i.e. fit top box, fit kick start, screw in mirrors, connect battery, then push on handle bar grips, and that was about it, the front wheel, and stand, was already fitted. The staff at pitbike4all were friendly, and helpful, even when the Credit Card machine refused my card after I guessed the PIN number 3 times, and got it wrong each time They just resorted to the old signature system, and everything went ahead OK. I would recommend pitbike4all as one of the better suppliers of these scooters. I have not fired it up yet, I will do that tomorrow when I hopefully get it licensed, (and get some petrol), but I don't think there will be any problems with the licensing, as all the correct documentation seems to be included, (I triple checked this) I got fully comp. insurance, from Ebike Insurance, for £126, and this was without stating that any security devices will be fitted, the scooter will be garaged overnight though. This price is low because I have a full car license, which also gives me a full moped licence, and I do have some previous motorbike experience, many many years ago. My insurance from Ebike, apparently includes home start, and breakdown recovery, which was an unexpected bonus, especially with the low price. By arranging the collection myself, and hiring a Man with a Transit Van, (pitbike4all is only 25 miles away), I managed to get the scooter, inc. delivery, for £535, then with the £38 registration fee, plus £15 tax, it will be on the road for £588, plus insurance, so not a bad deal. I will report back tomorrow with my DVLA experiences.

Nice one Gavin, good to see you're happy and you've saved a few quid by using your brain. I bet a lot of people simply hand over the best part of a hundred quid for delivery without checking other alternatives. Good luck at the DVLA tomorrow, I hope you don't have to post a reply in the "Trouble with certificate of conformity" topic!!

Thanks Phil. Just a couple of things I forgot to mention. After I assembled the scooter, I was left with 2 rubber bungs, and a nice chrome plated 15mm long screw, with a 16mm head. One of the bungs seemed to fit on the kick start, near the shaft, so I stuck it on there, not sure if this was right The other bung, which is 25mm long, and about 28mm wide at its widest, 15mm at its narrowest, is shaped like a traditional Welsh womans hat, does anyone know where this goes, and the chrome plated screw?

Yeah!!!! Gavin, i got my scoot from the same place as you and also the same insurance co, scarey! Anyway, I've the same rubber bung left too, i've chucked it under the seat incase it is important but like you, havent got a clue! How difficult was that crate to take apart!!! Dont remember having a left over screw though, erm, i'll have a look tomor where it might go. I had no probs getting is registered either, Cannon 2 seem to be getting good feed back too.

The Welsh ladies hat rubber bung is probably a free gift Did you stick a rubber bung on the kick start lever? Another thing I forgot to mention is the spare cable and connector, coming out just above the tail light cluster. I presumed that this was for a number plate light, but there isn't one, so I taped it up and fastened it out of the way, did you do the same, or have I missed something else? I have just been filling in the paperwork for the DVLA tomorrow, I sent for a V55/4 form, so I could fill it in before I got to the DVLA. This was more complicated than I thought, with all the carbon emission details reqd. and the minuscule writing on the CoC with all the relevant details

That wire is for a top box light. If you look at my top box I've got a light on the back which I've connected to the brake light, the good thing about your scooter is the wire sticking out the back is to make connecting a top box light easier.

I also got my Scoot from Pitbike4all! and have the same rubber bungs left over. I ended up putting them on the front wheel nuts (1 either side). I'm off to the DVLA in Sheffield today, hope I don't have any probs. Taking that metal frame apart took longer than putting the bike together. I'm now stuck with a pile of metal and a blue pallet!

Thanks again Phil. There is a reflector on the supplied top box, I had a look at that, and as there was no electrics involved with it, I ruled it out. I then thought it might have been for an internal light, which comes on when you open the lid.

Hello Billy, welcome to the group. I didn't get the blue pallet, probably because I collected it myself. When I spoke about shipping charges to the guys at Pitbike4all, they said that shipment loads are usually charged by pallet size, and as these scooters are long, they take up about 1.5 pallets, so Pitbike4all are then charged for 2 pallet loads per scooter. They are quite happy for customers to collect the scooters themselves though.

I have just been back to the DVLA, with the 'correct' insurance certificate, and forms supplied by pitbike4all, everything went through OK, (big sigh of relief), and it is now registered and taxed. Fetched a number plate from a local motorists spares shop, £7.99, so just got to fit that, and it is road legal. I have not purchased a helmet yet, (been waiting till I got the registration passed, ever the pessimist), so still cannot get out and about, but at least the hard part has been done.

I will fetch a helmet tomorrow, I had been looking on Ebay, and the lowest priced new full face is £28 inc. delivery, (seller newquads). Now everything is legal, I don't think I will be able to wait for the delivery of that one, so it looks like £50 from a local shop. I was talking to someone today, and they said get the best helmet possible, but if I paid £500 for an helmet, had a crash, and was heading towards a brick wall, I would be trying to take the helmet off, so it didn't get damaged

I paid fifty quid for mine off ebay which included free delivery. I don't blame you for not wanting to wait, just imagine having your scooter sat at home all weekend while you're waiting for a helmet to be delivered around Tuesday? It would be mental torture!!

I don't want to be a fly in the ointment but I would be very wary about buying a helmet from e-bay. I'm assuming you are looking at new ones, never buy second-hand as you have no way of telling what has happened to it.
To be honest I wouldn't buy new either as just like clothes no two sizes or fits are ever exactly the same. It is extremely important you get a helmet that fits your head properly and you feel comfortable with. I would strongly recommend that you bite the bullet on this one and go to a proper motorcycle equipment shop.
I went to Hein Gericke in Edinburgh a few months ago looking for a cheapo helmet. While there they let me try a AGV lid at £119, well over what I had hoped to spend. However the build quality, fit, styling and comfort were so good I bought it and have never regretted it.
