This is insane! In the state of Nevada, If you are on a scooter with a top speed of 30mph on flat with less than 50cc you are not required to wear a helmet, nor eye protection. Neither do you need a license plate or insurance, Let alone a tax disc like in UK. Basically all you need is a valid drivers license, and a fully functional scooter with all lights working, both mirrors, etc. One could technically go out in a pair of boxers and shower shoes and hop on a scoot and not get hassled(although I would strongly not recommend it). This is craaazzzzy! I seriously do not expect these laws to stand for long I'm always afraid I'm going to ride up some "road pizza" in the middle of the street, especially the way scoots get disrespected in this town

I think that in France if you ride a 50cc step thru moped you don't even need to be insured and you can ride one at 14. Holland too! Apparently they don't suffer for it accident-wise in which case I fully support it.

Here in Boston for a 50cc scooter all you need is a car license and a helmet no insurance required or plate just a registration sticker

Remember it is America where it is a crime not to have a gun and shoot people after which the State is allowed to kill you! I think all EEC countries now have the same laws re 50cc scooters / mopeds

i thought a bicycle is a bike that is powered with pedals, and a moped is a bike that can't go faster than 30mph and has pedals to that means scooters are classed as motorcycles so all the laws are the same, well in th UK it is

Mopeds and Motorcycles A moped is a motorcycle that has the following features: Maximum Design speed not exceeding 50kmh (approx. 31mph). An engine capacity no greater than 50cc. Can be moved by pedals, if the moped was first used before 1 August 1977.
have a look at your tax disc
"bicycle"

Here in Belgium laws are ridiculous also, wish they were like in UK. At 16 you can drive a class A moped, which means it has to be restricted at 25kmh , max 50cc . For a class B, which has to be restricted at 45 kmh you need a special license or a car license will do as well . Both need insurance, no tax disc or license plate. I have a car license, I can drive mopeds or motorcycles up to 125cc. For motorcycles that go more than 45kmh we need a license plate and the insurance costs will be higher. When we buy a 50cc moped that is restricted at 45 kmh we can not derestrict it and put license plates on it, it is forbidden, which is quite ridiculous, as I can drive a 125cc without restriction by law. So my baotian is doomed to drive 45 kmh or I will have to pay the fines and risk my moped to be taken by the police and sold. Stupid Belgian laws. I don't even care to drive at 45kmh, but I'm told that the restriction doesn't do any good at the bike, and I want it's lifespan to be as long as possible.

My tax disc states my moped is a bicycle, but just because it has an engine I cant use the bike lane, although that's also debateable because it is a bicyclye.
I also think that drivers who have held a licence before 2001 should be allowed to use 125cc without the use of stupid L Plates because after years of safe road use you should be competent enough to handle the bike.
But then again, unfortunately in the UK you have a scott, Gordon Brown, who is chancellor of the exchquer and he is only interested in stealing more money from you in any way he can.
Because, Jersey, C.I. impose registration of push bikes where you have to display a number, it is only a matter of time before old tight Ar*e Brown jumping on the bandwagon and doing the same here to raise more money... Although that might be a good thing, it might stop the theft of cycles because they could be identified on the road.
