I took a long ride after work Friday. I needed to collect my paycheck from my second job so I would have gas money for the weekend. (Long trip) I left work at 5:10 PM & set off for my dad's shop (15 miles away) Traffic was heavy & the sky was very dark & threatening rain.(I was not excited) After about 2 miles it started to sprinkle. I thought about turning for home & getting my Jeep,(I was 2 miles from home at that point) but that would cost too much in gas so I stuck it out. Luckily the sprinkles ended a mile later. After about 7 miles of riding through intermittant sprinkles, I got out of the city. The sky lightened up considerably & my riding prospects looked much better. Made to Dad's place without incident. Collected my $$ & spent about 30 minutes talking, then lit out for home. A few miles out I decided to make for a nearby gas station to get something to drink.(1 mile out of my way) After getting my drink & answering a few questions about my scooter(from other patrons) I headed back to pick up my preferred route home. As I approaced my turn (Onto the prefered road) I saw a scooter approaching! The rider was a woman-roughly mid 40's in age & was perched rather stiffly on top of a Yamaha retro scooter. She turned down the road I was planning to take. :CLUB PRECRUITING OPPORTUNITY She was around the corner already by the time I reached the intersection. Figuring that I would have to do some fast riding to catch up... I gunned it around the corner & accelerated as fast as I could go. But there barely 100 ft from the intersection was my target putting along at 30mph #sleep# Blasting up beside her I braked & matched speeds & said "HEY-hows it going?" (Pregnant Silence) followed by a muffled "Its going OK" Then more silence. She did not seem at all interested in talking to this flying stranger on a yellow scooter . Horribly dejected, I bid her a good ride & took off. Wound it up to 45 & Left her in the dust I did. Not too far down the road I hit a 35mph zone & had to slow down. She was back there in my mirror for about 5 miles till I turned off onto a side road. Sigh...my first recruiting oppertunity-score
