This is my first chinese scooter, and unfortunately the bike arrived pre-built the day after i went on holiday. So i got back, and took it for a spin. It did 50 miles, then it all went bad. First, it turned on but it wouldnt accelerate, there was no return on the throttle. Then, the bike refused to start at all, i was getting a spark and the starter motor was turning, but the bike just didnt start. After fiddling with the spark plug and throttle cable the bike decided to work for a good minute or two, then went back to not working again. I have a feeling that the problem has something to do with the oil in the bike, but i will take any advise you have to offer. Thanks!

What happens a lot on these bikes is that if you have the slightest starting problems, the engine floods SO easily .... (take the plug out - does it smell of petrol and is it damp? If yes, the engine's flooded)...
If this is the case, dry off the spark plug and crack the kick start a good 15-20 times, (WITHOUT turning the throttle!), then next, kick it over and pull the throttle right back ..... if it was a flooded battery the cracking will shift the fuel then the final throttle twist will get some fresh fuel in and it should roar into life!
Other than that, check for loose connections (Ally can help with these, he had these problems!)... of course, I am assuming you have the side stand up (won't start with the side stand up!).....
Other than that it may be that your valve clearances have gone way out, (usually caused by not riding in the right way during the running in period!).... this is a fiddly job but can be done as DIY if you check the Hints & Tips on this site.

Hi Max
I think you may have a blocked fuel line, or a blocked jet.
After 50 miles, some of the little bits of plastic left inside the petrol tank may have migrated to the carb. Take it off and clean it.

Safety switch (EEC requirement) so that you cant accidentally ride off with the stand down, and fall off at the first left hand corner. You can by-pass it but will fail first MOT.
