i wouldnt advise buying a branded second hand bike, you never know how hard the previous owner rode it or anything. thats just my personal preference i would prefer to know that if anything goes wrong - its my doing and i know exactly whats wrong....

I would go for a second branded scooter, well I did, only cost me £220 and its still going fine 12 months later, even paying £450 - £500 for one should last a lot longer than 14 months

Go to a long established dealer with a decent showroom and have a look at 2nd hand bikes.
I use is a Honda dealer but they have other makes of bikes/scooters for sale second hand.
New expensive bikes out of showrooms do lose their value, but with them you get decent warranties and the support of a major dealer should anything go wrong in the long term.
I've had a Honda Dylan for two and a half years. OK it cost almost £2K, but I got a 2 year warranty with breakdown cover, and free first service included in that deal. Needless to say neither the warranty, or the breakdown service were ever used and 11K miles later the bike is as reliable as ever. You get what you pay for !

This is a point I have been thinking about recently. I figure I will go up to a 125cc sometime in the new year. Been looking at several scoots both new and second hand. Pretty much think I will be buying another Chinese bike though. Simple economics, around £600 tops gets me a new chinese bike. A better brand is anywhere from £1500 to £2500. Even if I only get 2 years from the cheaper one, I can still buy a couple of those for the price of the so called better brand.
