Not wanting to sound like a miserable old git but obviously the car had brake lights so that's your warning. After the car pulled out in front of you you should've slowed right down so you had the correct braking distance.

Not disagreeing but I think the word suddenly means that the above description was all one manouevre, not 2 separate ones. Sexybum probably didn't have chance to react to either. I have noticed more people pull out on my black Ka than ever did on my yellow one. It must be twice as bad for bikes.

If the car suddenly pulled out then she would have gone into the side. As she went into the back I'm assuming the car pulled out (that would have been a good time to brake) and then stopped at the crossing just after pulling out.

Which really just means that the car had time to turn sideways as well as pulling out. Still not a lot of time and there are no stopping distances quoted for idiots pulling out on you. Not arguing Phil but shut up I'm right OK

It happens all the time. Car drivers give us no attention and automatically think they can pull out on us just because they have a bigger machine . I am sure car drivers on this forum who also drive scoots pay more consideration to fellow scooterists. In the week and a few days I have been riding on the road I have been almost ploughed into by an Alfa Romeo, a BMW and a Mercedes. My advice - Never ever think that they have seen you.

I did react as quick as I could and thats why there is only damage to one side of my scoot. But i have learnt from it. Il certainly be more wary of cars in future.

Sorry to hear of your bad news sexybum ! Hope you're ok and not too shaken. A big white transit van pulled out on me yesterday morning, he hadn't seen me and to be fair he did stop eventually but he was right in the middle of the road and I had to go on the other side of the road to get past. When things like this happen, I just shake my head at them and get on with it.... as has been said, on any bike you have to assume that all car drivers are blind, ignorant and stupid ..... LPW is very correct - when I am driving my car, I am now the most considerate driver ever where bikes and scooters are concerned !!
It should be a lesson to us all however, that the law (driven by Insurance laws and rules) clearly states that whenever a vehicle runs into the rear of another vehicle, the fault lies with the rear vehicle, as drivers / riders should always leave enough space to stop in an emergency without hitting the vehicle in front...... That can be difficult when a vehicle pulls out in front of you inappropriately (as in this case) and it may well have been that in reality this was 100% the car drivers fault, and sexybum may have had very little realistic opportunity to stop while avoiding a collision.
However, while the law may have been on the biotch's side for road positioning - driving away from the scene of an accident is a criminal and imprisonalbe offence ..... if you'd got her Reg Number and called the Police she would have learned her lesson when the cops turned up at her workplace and arrested her on the spot.
Today's lesson ....... "Leave enough space, and you won't end up a basket case !"

my late father who used to drive me up the wall did once give me a good bit of advice which as stuck over the years. What ever you drive/ride think for the other drivers never assume they are going to do the right thing always assume the worse that way you stay on your toes

I have to say, I have had people pull out in front of me. But not sinc eI bought my dayglow yellow jacket with reflective tape. It is so bright, everyone looks at me. (Drivers that is) And if they are looking at me, they are LESS likely to run me over.
