a safety helet has its good points but they also have there bad ones too, and it is these points that are important, if you are wearing an enclosed helmet you cannot hear any thing ,so if some thing breaks or comes loose and you cannot hear it it can cost you a hell of a lot of money , also blind spots , the mirrors are there but blind spots are worse wearing a full hemet, in trafic using a scooter sight and being able to hear are very important so a Summer type helmet is the best type to wear, that is if you can find them?

When riding you should not just use morrors you should use your lifesavers so there is no blind spot if you turn your head.As for the noise you can hear just as much from your lid as you would from a car..doesnt mean you drive everywhere with your windows down and radio off..Plus in this weather a full face lid stops all those pesky flys and wasps from hitting you..jay

I was unfortunate to witness the damage someone suffered after hitting the road face down after parting company from his bike, nose virtually ground away, eye socket damaged, top teeth gone, massive cheek bone damage and smashed jaw, months of hospital rebuilding, deformed for the rest of his life! He wasa a cruiser rider, aparently its 'the thing' to wear open face helmets on them, after that to me the choice is full-face or no face!

P.S, this is of course in addition to the normal injuries that he sustained that you would expect from an accident, he had a broken arm fractured leg, 3 cracked ribs, internal bleeding and a pair of b&*%$£ks like zepplins! All that mended, but his face is still a mess, that wont ever be the same.

I used to ride bikes off road. 125cc scramblers that were bloody fast. Even in the heat I wore the full gear, gloves, one piece motocross suit with back protector and a full motocross helmet with googles.
It is safety first! I was out one summer when the weather must have been topping 35 degrees riding round a bunch of fields with all of my gear. A few teenagers had come up on dodgy trials bikes and ratty mopeds and were bombing along the dusty tracks in just shorts and t-shirts.
Needless to say one of them fell off, It was because he tried to keep up with me!! He came off at about 60mph and his body just slammed into the ground. It was a whole fiasco. Ambulances and police cars the lot. I had permission to be there and after they checked my bike and gear I was allowed to carry on riding.
Several days later I heard from a few of that kids mates who cam up sporting jackets, sturdy jeans and full helmets that their mate was lying in intensive care with broken ribs, arm, leg and his ankle completely shattered.
He only just survived. Safety first! I saw him the other week. He is always gonna walk with a bit of a limp but now he wheres the full gear!

I wear a half helmet because I do not like the restricted vision. Car & truck drivers to not show me any respect or cut me any slack. So I figure I need to be on top of my game when riding. The more I can see the better chance I have to see trouble coming & get out of the way. I also wear an armored jacket & heavy duty nylon overpants.
