I'm not one to play around with my bike's setup , I tend to leave that to the experts at Honda. However the SIP Catalogue that came with this months T&G had some great looking grips (the PROGRIP Chrome ones). I've always thought the grips on the Dylan were a bit dull so would be interested in fitting new ones.
My question is simply how easy a job is this ? I take it I would have to measure the width of the Honda grips to check I was getting the right size ? How easy is it to remove the original grips and fit new ones ?
Any thoughts would be very welcome.
Thanks guys.

They are a standard size - or supposedly. In the past I have had to add a couple of layers of electrical tape because they were too big, or put them in hot water to soften them if too small. Sometimes you can twist off the old one, thats o.k on the left but be carefull not to over-twist the throttle cable on the right, if not out come Mr Stanley Knife to give me a hand!

please excuse my ignorance (now you see why I leave jobs to my dealer !!) but do the new grips fit over the old original ones or do you have to remove them. If I remove them what is underneath ?
Thanks for your help - just been on the sip website and they have some very classy looking grips.

Hmmm sounds a job even my limited DIY abilities could handle.
1) I take a Stanley knife and carefully cut down the old grips until I can remove them.
2) Underneath is a plastic pole (for want of a better word)
3) I slip the new grips onto the pole possibly with a bit of padding if they are a bit too big
Excellent, time for another browse on the SIP site...
Thanks for the advice guys

Excellent. I e-mailed my dealer just to confirm that the Dylan has standard 7/8" handlebar fittings. The SIP website has a minimum order value and that coupled with postage costs from overseas make it a bit pricey. Luckily there are several people on e-bay selling similar items so I'm watching a few auctions while I decide what to go far. I fancy something with a black/chrome combination.

Got the grips I had chosen today and had them fitted within the hour, thanks to everyone who gave me invaluable advice. I think they make a big difference to the look of the Dylan. You can see the new grips at my website: www.argolis59.freeserve.co.uk/simons-scooters.htmComments always welcome. Thanks again guys, Simon

Thanks for the advice, I actually put some adhesive on them as the ones I removed had been glued, so it seemed a sensible precaution.

If anyone has a tight grip spay some paint from an aerosol inside and it will slide on easy and wont slip once it drys out.
