Some git stole my scooter and ripped the wiring out of the front. Its a Baotian BT50-QT11 retro and although I have connected everything back up, There seems to be some bits missing. More specifically the part that connects wires to the key/ignition so when the key is turned, the bike can power up. Photo 1 img87.imageshack.us/img87/8881/dsc000195si.jpgI dont know exactly what is needed, this hopefully is where you guys come in! In this post you will see some photo's. 1 of the full damage, and 1 of the close up of the only wires that I have yet to connect to something. This is the bit I am having problems with, as I dont know what they connect to and how it connects to the ignition barrel as all that is left of the ignitian, is the barrel which will accept the key, a metal part that hold s the barrel and a black plastic ring that fits on to the metal that holds the barrel. The black ring has notches on it that would suggest that something circular, fits into it and is rotated to lock it in. Its this missing part that I assume links to my bare wires to make the scooter work. Photo 2 img87.imageshack.us/img87/4034/dsc000204nl.jpgI need someone to confirm this, and let me know from the following link, what parts I need www.funracer.nl/FunShop/parts_list_category_2.php?database=p_baotian&category=22I think I need parts 4 and 5, can anyone confirm/deny this. I would be most grateful if someone can help as I think this may be a useful post for the future as I doubt if I am the first person to experience this, and the lack of Baotian mechanics around does not help! If you get part no 5 it is the complete ignition switch (all the bits you will need) Part no 4 is the starter relay which can be seen by removing the small cover on the RH side so is not part of the ignition switch.
There should be 5 wires to the switch 2 Green 1 Black 1 Black/white and 1 red to turn the ignition on connect red with black join the two greens together and leave the Black/white unconnected the bike should then start and you can check the rest of it.

Old person if thats right then you have made me a very happy person! The reason I think I need a starting relay is that I cant see one in the mess of wires. you say it can be seen by removing a cover on the right hand side?? not sure what you mean. Its not the circular thing hanging down on the bottom right of the last 2 pics is it? I have managed to dig up a picture of the starting relay :- img228.imageshack.us/img228/6246/180400bt50qt96ub.jpgbut it doesnt look like anything on my bike?? Ally - Thanks for the concern. I am in Cardiff Cheers All

The starter relay is under the seat/side panel beneath the oblong panel.
The "things" behind the front panel are ign switch, voltage reg(ribbed alloy) and flasher relay(tubular).
All the other connectors plug into each other.

Rob if you have problems with parts you can always try www.baotianuk.com 0870 777 4388. When I got my bike from them they told me they would be happy to supply parts to any of the members of the forum. Rob

ARRRRRRRRRRR The fustration!
I got sent the wrong ignition set i.e it comes from a Taishan, not a Baotian and yes they do look diffwerent, but would they work the same way?
oldperson, would you be able to give me an idiots guide to wiring up this new ignition set I have? The info you gave me r.e what to connect didnt really make sense as it left a lot out and forgot a few wires that confused me!
I have 2 lots of wires I need to connect:
1st bit is the bit that is connected to the ignition and keys. This has 1 x red (call it R1) 2 x green (G1+G2) 1 x black (B1) 1 x black and white (BW1)
and the bit the scallys ripped out has only
1 x red (R2) 1 x Green (G3) 1 x Black (B2) 1 x Black and white (BW2)
Can you let me know in an kind of B1 to R2 kinda way, what goes where?
Also, if this still wont work, what do you think my next step is?
Many Thanks

Hi Sorry it did not make sense. Function/circuit of wires from loom to ignition switch :- The ignition switch has 2 separate switches one switch opens (B) when you turn the ignition switch the other closes (A). A. Red = +12v supply from battery via fuse Black = +12v supply from ignition switch to indicators, horn, fuel gauge, starter circuit ,and brake light. B. Black/ white = to the cdi ignition inhibit pin ( also to the engine stop switch and the sidestand) Green = Ov earth/ frame When you turn of the ignition sw the black/ white wire connects to the green. When you turn the ignition on the red wire connects to the black. If you look at the wiring diagram this is shown x means it is closed in that position. R1 to R2 B1 to B2 G1 to G2and G3 BW1 to BW2 How do you intend to connect the wires? If you have a soldering iron I would solder them and cover with heat shrink but you could use crimps or terminal strip. Either way I would just twist them together to try it do the reds and blacks first and see if the ignition works you may find that the fuse in the battery compartment has blown (if the red wire has touched the frame) Once you get this working connect the black and whites and the greens you should make sure that the black/ whites are taped up before you start the engine as the have 50-100volts on them and may make you jump about also if they touch the frame the engine will stop. thanks for that. I will be connecting the wires using a 4 pole multiconnector similar to the ones found on the wire harness.
I think I will probably need a fuse as I have crossed all manner of wires since it was nicked.
One last thing before I try it. The 2 green wires from the ignition side (not wire harness) can I connect them into 1 and then connect these to the 1 green from the harness? willthat be safe?

Hi Yes thetwo greens can be connected together. Green is Earth/frame
There isa spare fuse in the fuse carrier.
Hope you get it going!!

Great news.....I am back on the road! Thanks toall who helped especially OLDPERSON. I am quite chuffed with myself as I managed to fit the ignition even though it was not designed for my scooter! I have 1 last slight problem......My Indicators will not work? Headlights and horn do, but not the indicators! I am so happy the damn thing is running at the moment I have not had the heart to open it up again and see whats wrong! Can you just let me know what may be the cause(s) as both of them are not functioning and I at least know they are connected properly. I got so into taking my bike apart, that I am soon to change the rollers and check the valve clearance, so thanks for opening my eyes also. Impact wrench and feeler gauges are on the way! Cheers Rob
