Hello, I believe it is the right lever that has to be pulled. It's the brake lever on the same side as the starter push button.

Hi thanks for the infomation, just looked through the booklet that came with the bike and its the left hand brake lever that is held in, but since I got the bike Ive always used the left hand brake lever but now it wont work but works with the right hand lever in.I wont damage the bike starting the bike this way will I?

You should check in the service manual (see the link on this site)
Both brake levers do exactly the same electrically, it doesn't matter which one you hold or even both, they allow electricity to go to the bulb and the starter relay.
With power to the starter relay, the starter switch completes the circuit to let the starter motor turn.
If one of the brake levers is not working then you MUST check the wiring, something is loose, broken or shorted and you could end up with potentially more problems.
If you are not sure what to check, then you should ask someone who can look for you otherwise you could end up with a much more expensive repair bill.

You only have to pull the brake lever enough to turn the light on, it's easy to do and turn the throttle at the same time, and press the starter button.
But If it's that difficult, you need to get a professional to look at your electrics.

On mine the electric start only works with the right hand (front) brake. I would not be completely surprised if this was in error though!
