I went out this morning and the battery was dead... I mean completely 0V dead. Everything was fine when I parked it last night!
I tested the battery wires and both are connected whether the key is in the on position or the off position.
It's going to be a ratsnest of a search to find the bad wire!

Ahhh! I was working on it today to find the problem and it might be the voltage regulator.
I smelled burning plastic and I located it to the voltage regulator. The connector is almost completely melted.
This is really frustrating. I bet the short is caused by something other than the regulator, but I just blew my headlight because I unplugged the regulator.

Ouch, that sucks. Not many headlight bulbs around here. Groves Motor Sports in Mason stocks a bulb that will fit our scoots. It is incandesant not halogen. But is is also $2 instead of $20! Lost my headlight bulb last week.(hit a huge bump in the dark) . I picked up one of the $2 ones. Seems to work fine. I plan on getting a new halogen bulb eventually, but in the mean time any light is better than no light!

Yeah the problem now is that I need a new headlight.
this time last year they were $3 a piece, now the absolute cheapest I can find them is $10 each.
I'll post a pic of the melted regulator, I'm glad (yet sorry) to here that this has happened before.

Did the fried regulator look like this? I just bought a new one off ebay for $8 and ordered a new bulb for $7.

Oh, I forgot to add that my scooter may have been affected by lightning! There was a terrible storm a couple of weeks ago, and the next morning it was dead!

Ok, I just replaced the reg and put a new headlight bulb in, but now my front headlight bulb is blown again! It turned on for a second and blew! The same thing with my brights, but now my brights indicator is not even turning on! That was the fourth blown bulb on my bike! This is getting a little ridiculous...
I hope this regulator works for a while!

That new regulator seems a little dodgy! Is there any chance you could swap in out.

Hey guys I got the regulator working for now, but the connector to the regulator is "a bit dodgy". It was pretty burnt and melted, but I cleaned it up and it works for now. I really need a new one, but I have no idea where or how I will be able to buy a new connector.
I'm going to go get some new lightbulbs tomorrow!

OK guys, I really need your help now.
I got all the bulbs in and everythings' grand, but now headlight and brights indicator are extremely dim. I put a voltmeter up to them and it said 2V. This is frustrating. Any ideas?

This is frustrating. Any ideas? This will probably be due to a high resistance, possibly in the faulty connector. It was probably a bad/loose connection in the connector that caused the original burning, and as the headlight takes most power, then it is in the headlight circuit that a fault is most likely to show. When you get overheating in electrical circuits, the overheating usually occurs directly where the fault is, because of the high resistance created from a loose connection. P.S. Is the brights indicator what we would call a main beam indicator, i.e. the indicator light that shows the headlight is on full power?

Yes the brights indicator is called the main beam indicator.
I actually cut the connector off and used spade terminals on the regulator, but I will check them again for the 10th time.
