My bike doesn't have as much power in cold weather as it does in the hot/warm Is there any scientific reason for this?

I believe that the cold air is better for combustion. Found this out on my Lotus, where there is a pipe for cold air from the front of the engine. If this is moved and it gets warm air from the radiator, it runs quite rough.

In theory an engine should work better in cold weather.
Because cold air is more dense it contains more oxygen which will make the fuel burn better. Thats why performance engines have intercoolers and cold air feeds.
Maybe my carb needs tweaking slightly to work best in this cold weather.

Believe me, The lotus is a collectors car - You have to collect all the bits that fall off! #rofl#
Actually, Like the scoots, it's got carburettors, well two massive ones, but same principle (180bhp worth of same principle). The problem is that the bonnet area is so cramped that the air spaces become very hot. Consequently, the air box has a long pipe to ensure that the air comes from the outside. Remove the pipe and it runs really badly, even moving the pipe from the front of the car makes a difference.
