Hi there! I've been visiting your site for a while now (got myself a nifty little Baotian for my sixteenth birthday), but now, I need your help. The rear light on my bike has blown not once, but twice- it was replaced free of charge by a friend, and I'm too polite to tell him it broke ten miles from the garage. Anyhoo, upon asking a different guy about what the problem might be, he told me it's darned near impossible to get replacement parts unless I get into contact with the guy I bought the Bike from. Unfortunately, I can't do that either; I got my hotrod speed demon from eBay. The man also said I should either check the 'rubber sealant', or get a new 'Regulator Rectifier'. He also suggested it might be vibrations 'doing the bulb in'. Does anybody know about a website where I can order replacement parts for a Baotian, or can tell me specifically where to kick the bike to make the wires sort themselves out? Altenatively, has anyone else experienced this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try another bulb before you do anything else. I have had 'Brand new' bulbs blow in a matter of minutes for no reason. They should be fairly standard and available from halfords

My headlight went out a month after I got mine, it took 2 more lightbulbs to rectify the situation, I would try another new one from a parts broker- that is if you can find one! I would look in the links section for that!

Just because normal spare parts like panels etc are hard to come by a bulb will be a worlwide standard part. I had to change my Taishan Commuter's orange front light bulbs so I just took the old one into a shop and asked for a clear one - they looked a bit confused in WH Smiths so I later tried a motor parts shop. ;D

However I've ridden vibrating bikes for many years with no hassle. If anything (and I'd go with the new bulb from any old garage before trying anything else) the most likely culprit is earthing, purely at the rear light. This can be as simple as making sure all the screws etc that hold anything metal to anything else metal INSIDE the rear light are good and tight. I made the emphasis on INSIDE because I've seen people crack lens covers before when told to tighten things to get a good earth and these things are usually made of two types of plastic:- crackillium or shatterillium The bulb is likely to be (but not certainly) a twin filament bulb combining rear light and brake light. If all else fails there are (admittedly a little more expensive in the short term) LED replacements available which aren't as delicate as glass/filament bulbs. Good luck and learn well. ;D
