Evening all, Riggwelter on line and glad to be aboard!! Got my first moped, a BT50QT-9 a few weeks ago just for getting to work and back. I never realised what a great laugh it was so I've done more miles than just going to work. Trouble is after 200ks the thing has just given up starting. While on the main stand, the electric start makes no sound at all and the kick has just as little effect. The battery is wired correctly and I can't see any obvious loose wires. Please tell me it's nothing serious and everything will be okay. I don't want to loose my enthusiasm/confidence and it's too damn cold for the mountain bike.

Can't think of anything from your description of the fault, but vague descriptions like "While on the main stand, the electric start makes no sound at all and the kick has just as little effect" does not help with possible diagnosis. The electric start not working could be a flat or faulty battery, "but the kick has just as little effect" means nothing. Are you turning the throttle when using the kick start, and operating the rear brake lever? I find that 2 rapid kicks are the best way to start mine, it usually starts from cold every time like this.

Soz Mate, I'm new to this lark. S'pose I was slightly vague, I think it's cus I'm a bit frustated. I'll Wheel the beast out over the weekend, do a few more checks and post more details after that. Ta for the quick reply anyway. #cheers#

It sounds as if your side stand has worked loose.
The bike won't start if the side stand is down (It's a safety feature). Check the side stand is in the fully up position when you try to start it, and don't forget to pull the ear brake lever while starting.
Let me know how you get on.
