Hi all
was pointed in the direction of this site by a guy on ebay - what a relief to find loads of people experiencing same probs as me!
Just bought a zhongyu ZY50QT-7 (seems to be pretty similar to the baotians etc) and have struggled like hell to get it up and running.
Nearly there now! ;D

hi zhongyudave, whats are the problems u have been going through, i would love to here them. Ok. here goes.............. Bought the scooter from bikemartdirect on ebay. Delivery was a farce - took 3 attempts to get it delivered. When i unpackaged it there were no instructions on how to puit it together! Took a whole weekend to get the front wheel/battery/covers on. Oh, the plastic bit at the bottom of the speedo cable was snapped as well. Fuel Cables to the carb also needed connecting - sounds straight forward but it's not when you haven't the first clue about engines. Eventually got it started - needed to inject fuel into the carb first. Had it ticking over lovely. Had a quick blast on it to see what it could do - which was a max speed of 10mph!! One of the cable had a gash in it and was leaking fuel. Got that sorted. To be fair bikemart sent me replacement cables very quickly. Next problem was left indicator - stoped working completely - electrics needed adjusting. Fuel guage - permanently showing a full tank (still need to sort this one) and that's it. Getting onto derestrricting it next.

Welcome aboard chap!! I bought my old Taishan Commuter from Bike Mart Direct, I had no problems putting the bike together as all I needed to do was fit the battery and the mirrors. Registering the damn thing with the DVLA was a whole different ball game - you can read all about it in the Trouble With Certificate Of Conformity topic in the Rules, Announcements, Suggestions section.

Thanks for the info about the problem you had with registration. I've been waiting until next week to register the bike when I can get to the DVLA office in Leeds (Didn't want to risk losing anything in the post). Didn't really anticipate any problems - thought it would be straight forward - hope it is!

Didn't really anticipate any problems - thought it would be straight forward - hope it is! It all depends on what your local DVLA office is like, Norwich was crap yet Ipswich was OK for another member. Had I have gone to Ipswich instead I'd probably be singing another tune. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Just got back from DVLA office in Leeds - scooter not registered. bikemartdirect forgot to send me the customs decleration form which says they've paid the VAT. I'll hopefully get it in the post so i can try again tomorrow.
