Hi I new here but not new to scootering. Anyway, I need to know what engine I have in my Chinese scooter. It is a 2004 Qianjiang RX150 but with a 125cc engine. (a Vento Phantom r4i clone I picked up on Ebay from one of those fly-by-night dealers). I hear about the GY6 engine and think thats the one I have but don't know for sure. I have to get some parts and don't want to buy the wrong stuff. How can I tell which one I have??

larry/ I have a Taishan 125cc with the GY6 type engine. This number is stamped on my engine. Go to the right hand side of the scooter where the oil level dipstick is located. Look directly down from the dipstick to the the large oil drain plug nut then glance to the right where GY6 .75lts is seen clearly stamped on the casting. If you indeed have a GY6, which is more than likely, I have recently purchased a drive belt from www.PartsforScooters.com. Although they are based in Florida they seem very efficient. Go to their web site and enter GY6 and all the parts are illustrated and priced. I have found it very difficult to get parts for the 125cc motor here in the UK. However, Beedspeed in Grimsby www.beedspeed.com have supplied me with variator rollers which I have yet to fit. Incidentally I do wish that members would identify the scooter they are referring to in their E mails at the top of the page, this would save a lot of wasted time when one is trying to find out information about ones own scooter. I hope the above is of help, Regards Roddy.

Thanks for the reply and I found the drain plug, looked everywhere on that casting and found only the serial number. Thats the only thing engraved into the casting and it's on the other side. No GY6 anywhere, no markings of any kind. If I could put a pic in here of the scoot maybe that would help. It looks like a Vento Phantom r4i, or Strada of 2004 vintage.

I have found the number # QJ153QMI on that casting and at www.PartsforScooters.com. they say the Yamaha engine has the number # T151QMI. I think the "QMI" referrs to Yamaha, although it still could be a GY6 just copied after the Yamaha design rather than the Honda design.

larry,
My Taishan TS 125T-4 has the GY6 number stamped on the casting, as mentioned previously.
The engine number is TS 152 QMI /00100330, if this is of help.
Regards,
Roddy

The GY6 is cast into the swinging arm /left hand crank case on my Sukida 125, yours may be simular. Are you sure you have read the numbers right as cb50j says 153 is unusual. We can assure you that QMI is definatley the Honda clone version though, and you should be able to use qmi for your spare parts referals.

Definetly QJ153QMI Just rechecked, it's plainly visible. There is no other numbers or letters engraved or cast on the engine (beside the serial number which is right under the QJ153QMI.
