Hi everybody. I have had this bike for approx 6 weeks now, and all was fine until i let it run out of petrol (silly me). I have had problems ever since. After running out of petrol it started to jerk and cough at around 45/50km/h and would cut out every now and again. I promptly took it for a full service and explained the problem to the mechanic who said he would flush the carb etc and it would be fine. I went to pick it up and yes it was fine for 2 days then the same problem started, popping and misfiring and sounding like struggling for fuel so i took it back. He told me that there was crap in the carb again and told me to get my fuel from somewhere else. Well i got halfway home on my 14 mile journey and it started again. It has now got so bad that it will only throttle so far, up to around 45km/h then it just chugs and pops and struggles like hell. Someone told me that it is worth changing the small white in line fuel filter for a much better one? Do I have to take any special precautions when changing the in line filter? Surely there must be dirt coming from somewhere and i can only point to this filter. Air filter is spotless, spark plug is new (NGK one) oil and gear change up to date. Have you any ideas what might be wrong, it has only gone like this since running out of fuel. I do believe this bike is simular to all the other 125 models based on the gy6 engine. Any ideas would be much apprecated. I am a novice so do bear with me! Thanks Paul.

hi m8, thanks for the quick response. I have tried adjusting the valves as per the guide on these fourms with no joy at the moment. They were pretty much already set where they should be.

I would suggest installing an inline fuel filter as soon as possible

i do have one on already, but to be fair its the one that came with the bike which looks a bit plasticy and tacky and is a sealed unit, i have ordered one of those copper anodised ones which you can unscrew. Do I have to take any special precautions regarding getting air in the fuel pipe or is it just a case of take the old in line filter off and pop the new one on, I'm not gonna create another problem like air bubbles or anything? Really need to get this resolved asap as my baby scoot is my only form of transport! :-( thanks again every1 for your input so far.

Well, i have altered the mixture screw and tried 2 full turns, 2 and a half full turns, 3 turns and other combinations,a and now it just won't run at all :-( so the situation is now worse......help. It now takes ages to start and then promptly starts misfiring/ backfiring badly with a strong smell of petrol and then cuts out. Any more suggestions, I now have a scoot that won't run at all!

finally fixed, wasn't the mixture, wasn't the valves, but the float seems to keep sticking on my carb, so it's maybe faulty. All running ok at the moment until the float sticks again! I have a whole new carb on the way under warrenty just in case. Thanks again for all your help. Paul :-)
