I have a Baotion retro scooter with strange idle problems. Also likes to cut out! It's a nearly new bike with 70km and problem is as follows...
When the bike's warmed up, I attempt to set the idle speed. As I VERY slowly turn the idle screw, the bike suddenly goes from a fast idle to completely dying!!! There is no in-between. Either fast or nothing. I've pulled the carb, cleaned it thouroughly and put back together.
If I loosen the idle screw quickly, it appears to do very little, but then after a second or two it sudenly dies.
Shouldn't it be possible to acheive a gradually lower idle speed? Certainly this is the case on any other vehicle I've evr workd on.
Maybe I'm trying to get the idle too low, but it doesn't sound that way. The lowest idle I can get has the rear wheel turning quite a bit when it's on the stand.
Anyone got any ideas??
Cheers, Scott.

Hi Scott, Have you changed the chinese spark plug for an NGK C7HSA, that will improve starting and slow running. your mixture screw should be turned right in, then out by 2 - 2.5 turns. Then when the engine is hot ajust the idle screw by .25 of a turn, opening the throttle slightly after each ajustment unitl the correct setting is achieved. Brian

Think I've sorted it! New plug and another carb clean!
Now have a new problem..... (see new thread)
Thanks for the suggestions.
