you should be able to slide your feeler gauge all the way through, not too loosely or tight, just a little resistance............

right and i am taking it from the right place then and there to much from what im hearing.
thing is it was backfiring the lot and seemed like it has no fuel kept stoping and starting ro me that would be a carb prob shurely the valve gaps being advanced clighly would not do that as that is what it seem like at the moment.

the pink arrow shows where you should be measuring with your feeler gauge, the 0.05 blade should slide freely through the small gap not loosely or tight....... ................ #sprint#

if you've got the "T" timing mark right you should be able to slide the feeler gauge as described...

yer iv got the fan on the t and the big hole in the cam pointing way from the motor and the rocker arms are pritty level so both the valves should be closed.
also when you had yours timed up was it on the rock?

A backfire is also caused by unburnt fuel entering the exhaust and igniting there. I would check your spark plug is OK and correctly gapped.
Chuck out the chinese one and get yourself an NGK C7HSA. They are on ebay for around £2

also its missing as well quite bad.
i know quite a bit about motors/cars and stuff being a apprentice mechanic so i was working my round to all of those things fuel mixture did come into mind but i dont see how that and the spark plug would make it back fire i can understand the spark plug making it miss, keep in mind its got worce and worce slowly and she runs spot on on idle.
will av the plug out to moz know peeps in the bike trade so will blag a new spark plug if the one in is looking crap also iv already got an NGK in.
any tips on messing with the mixture?
