I know this may sound daft but I thought I had better ask before I do it, now then I have done all the other bits on derestriction like the carb and the pink wire and must admit it is a small bit better but not much. My next task is to take off the spacer behind the 17mm nut but before I do (and I know it's going to be on tight)I would like to know is it a l/h thread or r/h thread. hope you can help. Also the bike has only done 300k so should I do it now or wait a while till it's run in more.

Its a normal style thread
You will need to use an impact wrench to remove it!

You don't need to use anything if you use an impact wrench to undo the nut.

Do you realise what an impact wrench is? It is air or elecric driven heavy duty drill that is like an electric drill set to hammer, like they use in tyre depots, that viberate shock your nuts loose! (literaly!!!) Best not to use the type that you hit with a heavy hammer as it is likely to damage /bend shafts. If you are in the UK there are some electric one that run off your battery on Ebay, look in tips &diy on these pages. Hope this helps.

In the beginning before I got a torque gun I just used an adjustable rubber strap wrench.
