I have had my Baotian BT50QT-9 for a month and with 300km on the clock I found myself pushing it on one of the very few straight and relatively level stretches of road here on Kalymnos. I soon found myself passing 45mph/70kmh and still accelerating on a slight uphill slope! At this point, I eased off, as I didn’t want to harm the young engine.
Anyway, last week I changed the oils for the first time and decided to have a bit of a look around the scooter. I got down on my hands and knees to look up inside the bodywork on the left side to see if I could see the pink cable and the connector joint in it. What did I see? I saw the pink cable coming from the CDI/battery compartment tidily tucked away behind one of the metal straps off the frame with a clear plastic protector over the cable connector. It had never been connected! I removed the seat and helmet compartment beneath for a closer look, but could not find the other section of pink cable running on to the back of the scooter.
I also opened up the carb to find I did not have a brass screw under the top either. Whilst open, I did adjust the washer to the middle position on the needle. I have found that this adjustment combined with the change of oil to Shell Advance SX4 15W-50 mineral four stroke motorcycle oil (5 Euros for 1 litre) in both the engine and gears has made little or no difference to general acceleration or hill climbing. I have not pushed it to the top end again …. yet!
Is the absence of a brass screw common and has anyone else found their pink cable has not been connected? If they have, have they found the rear section of the pink cable?
As a point of interest, the EC Certificate of Conformity is dated 19/07/2005 and is for BT50QT-9G, H and M versions. My one is shown as a H version. I am aware of the differences between A, B, C and D versions, ie one or two seats and drum or disk front brakes, but what are the differences between G, H and M versions? The maximum speed is shown as 45kmh.
