I have had my Baotian BT50QT-9 for two weeks and it is approaching its first oil change at 300KM.
I have read through a lot of the posts on this forum and have a pretty good idea of what can be done to improve performance. However, my problem is slightly different due to where I live, that is on the Greek island of Kalymnos where the roads are quite often in poor condition and, more importantly, are nearly all on an incline and many are very steep and twisty. So, I am not interested in de-restricting to exceed 30MPH/48KPH, I just want to get up hills quicker!
I know it is early days and a few more KMs and oil changes will help boost performance, but I don’t think it will improve it enough. At present, on the steepest of hills any momentum gained on the approach is soon lost and I end up crawling at not much more than 10KMH. I tried yesterday with my wife on the back and …….. she had to get off and walk on the steepest incline to get home!
My problem is similar to that esaycee has in High Wycombe, see ‘Slow Moving BT50QT-9’ on Page 2 of ‘Engine & Derestriction’. Apart from one reply from Hypojam, this post stopped dead. esaycee – If your reading, how are things now? I know your hills as my brother lived in Hazelmere and now lives in Wooburn Green. Amersham to Beaconsfield must be fun?!!
OK, so what are my options?
Rollers or contra spring (in rear variator) – change one, both or something else (… the scooter perhaps!)?
If it is the rollers, what weight would anyone suggest, as speeds over 30MPH/48KPH are not an issue? Also, what weight are the factory ones I already have fitted? I have read that some say 6g, but some have been fitted with 8g. What make/model was this in? When I read that some people are satisfied with 6g, it makes me think I have 8g! What difference would changing the drive face boss to 36mm make?
Contra spring – I have read Hypojam’s ‘Clutch Springs?’ on Page 2 of ‘Engine & Derestriction’. I too have noticed that the engine revs fail to drop back down, but when at a standstill and after the clutch has disengaged. I have also read the article at:
www.teamcalamari.com/zuma/variator.html
If I change the rollers, does anyone know of any UK suppliers that do cheap international delivery as I have made some enquiries locally and the lowest stocked weight was 5.5g. I know Scooter Assassins do weights for £4.50 + £1.50 P&P to anywhere in the world. Are these rollers any good?
Suggestions anyone?
