Hey, my first post.. I found this site today looking for a way to derestrict my BT 50QT-9. Anyway... I proceeded with one of the tutorials given, then I got to the carburettor bit. Everything was going fine until I removed the fixed washer, it snapped. When this happened, I panicked and just put everything back where it was, and now, because the snapped washer wasn't holding the needle in place, the needle is gone, I'm guessing, right inside the hole it fits in... Now all it can do is 2MPH. I really need help with this and I don't know what to do, if any of you have any ideas, please help me out.

Cheers Phil.
Yeah, I read through practically every topic regarding BTs, people here seem to know what they're doing so HOPEFULLY, I can get something sorted.. If not, what do you think would be the next thing to do? (This is my first ever vehicle and it's only 3 weeks old, so I don't know about garages and such..)

I wouldn't panic just yet but maybe a trip to a bike garage might be on the cards as a last resort....

just rap a load of cellotape around the top of the pin, that will hold it like a washer

There's a sticky topic in the Hints, Tips & DIY section where you can download the service manuals. They're a bit like a Haynes manual and might come in handy if you have a bolt or two left over.

DONT PANIC! DON'T PANIC!
I doubt the pin will have gone anywhere, it'll just be sitting in the jet not allowing any fuel out. Take it out and wander into your nearest local bike store (or workshop) and ask them if they have a spare washer to fit it- they'll more than likely be able to flog you one for a quid or less. Bung them an extra pound to get them to put it on the right groove on the pin for you if you want to be really safe;).

I'm sorry, but you'll probably need a new carb. I bent the pin in mine when I was playing with it, and I tried to straighten it but it has never worked the same since. I saw someone win a brand new carb on ebay for $10 last night.

Nah, I managed to get the pin out, and it's fine.. So all I need is a new washer, at the moment I've wrapped some wire around, in place of the washer and that seems to be holding pretty well for the time being. Shame about yours mate.

Which washer are you talking about? The white clip, or the little clip that fits onto the grooves of the pin? I bought a new carb anyways (waiting for it to come in) because the 50cc carb was causing the engine to run lean and there are no replacement main jets to be found. It's pretty cool though, I have a whole display of scooter parts (carb, intake, hoses, old 50cc engine) in my apartment room. Chinese scoote parts make a nice centerpiece don't you think?

Most Jap needle jet carbs use a simple bog standard spring washer to hold and adjust the needle so I'm guessing that this will probably be the same. Any decent nut and bolt store or auto garage should have loads of spring washers.
