I've bought a Taishan Commuter 50cc, got it cheap as it needs some attention.
It starts perfect and I can blip the throttle. I can ride down the road but after about 100 meters the power dies away and it cuts out. Feels as though it's been starved of fuel. When it's running it pulls quite hard so I'm pretty everything is ok mechanically. I can wait 10 seconds and restart and same thing happens again.
It's only 6 months old and has done 1000 miles, I believe it's been stood some time.
I've stripped the carb and given it a good clean out, I've checked the supply line from the tank to the carb, all ok, I've even replaced the fuel pipe with some clear tubing so I can see fuel is flowing to the carb. I've also checked the vacuum valve in the tank and the filter in the tank, all ok.
I've checked the operation of the float in the carb and the needle valve, all ok.
I'm taking the carb to work tomorrow to give it a good blow out with an air line, fingers crossed.
Anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks, Dave.

It's ok now, I've finally fixed it, took some finding though! Runs sweet now.

If anyone's interested.... it turns out it was the valve clearance (or lack of) on the exhaust valve, see my other posts for more details.....
