I've read somewhere that the Taishan 50cc is restricted by the CDI unit (ignition unit). When the engine hits a certain rpm the ignition timing is retarded thus preventing the engine from revving any higher I've heard it done this way before on other bikes.
Only solution is to buy an after market CDI unit or find some clever people who can modify it.
This website seems to be taking off quite well, has the webmaster thought of contacting Taishan for info, help, sponsorship, etc...?

Contact Taishan? I'm sure they'd be more than helpful. A member did contact Baotians head office and surprisingly someone did reply. Don't bother with an aftermarket CDI unit, somebody on here (can't remember who) bought one and it didn't work. edit: It was Stocko, just seen your reply.

Whilst I am sure the Chinese manufacturers would be quite happy for us to all be doing 120 mph on our 49cc scooters, the European Union would probably see it as a slight infringement of a law designed to stop many youngsters killing themselves. So the manufacturers would probably be a bit hesitant in providing official information that could get their machines excluded from importation to the EU.

Plus would you really want to go 50+ mph on a scooter with drum brakes? It takes me 3 miles to stop from 30 mph as it is.

;D In the rain and and a slippery road surface you might as well keep on going..............those damn white lines and road markings are deadly in the wet too. Need to change my pants after the ride to the station this morning

Need to change my pants after the ride to the station this morning It was wet when I rode home from work on Monday and I stupidly turned whilst my front wheel was on a drain cover. I nearly pooped my pants when the front started sliding.
