Just took me Baotian to a bike garage today. They said these scooters cannot be de-restricted as they are a 4 stroke. Plus any parts would be impossible to get anyway. If anyone knows any different, please let us know. I'd love to go faster than 25mph.

Seriously Scooter, its easy. The lads at work didnt believe I did it myself coz i'm "such a girlie"!!!! You just have to be careful and gentle with the little washer. I cant believe the difference it makes. I'm even slowing down for speed cameras, didnt think i'd see the day i'd do that on my wee scoot.

Cheers for that guys. I guess the garage didn't want to do the job in the first place. I bet the cost of doing it wouldn't have covered their over-heads.
By the way, I've already had the carb off and moved the washer to the third notch, and cut the pink wire, but it don't go any faster. The guy at the garage recons it summat in the exhaust. But wot do I know.

Hi, did you check that the air intake hose isn't kinked, that cuts performance like you wouldn't believe!

Hi, did you check that the air intake hose isn't kinked, that cuts performance like you wouldn't believe! I put a "how-to" guide in the Hints, Tips & DIY section if that is the problem.

Don't fancy that garage's chances of surviving as a business. De-restriction is simple on most cheap machines and shouldn't require any spare parts. Sounds like you got some stroppy mechanic who thought it was beneath him. Any new 50cc bike in the UK is restricted, 2-stroke, 4-stroke, doesn't make any difference.
The question of spare part availability will always arise when you take these Chinese machines to a standard bike dealer. When I had my Adly 125cc I took it to my local garage a couple of times. They were worried about getting parts if anything was needed. I simply told them that I was quite happy to pay for them to examine/service the bike and if any parts were needed I'd take the machine away, source the parts myself and then bring it back to them for fitting. They were happy to accept this, although as it turned out the Adly was a tough wee beastie and never needed any spares in the year I had it.
The mechanic at Adly UK HQ told me the reluctance of garages to get involved in sourcing spares for these machines has less to do with availablity and more to do with the fact that the spares are very inexpenxsive (compared to big brands like Honda etc) and therefore there is no profit for the garage once they find them.
