I have a Taishan Commuter QT-4 50cc and was wondering if I deristrict it how much faster will it go and also will it overheat? Welcome aboard Benki. By derestricting the scooter you'll be able to do around 45mph. You've got no worries about over-heating as by derestricting it you'll only be doing what the engine was designed to do. It's only our crap laws which say a scooter has to be restricted to 30mph. There's a topic called "Baotian BT50" in this section where I've scanned 5 pages from Twist & Go magazine which shows you how to derestrict a scooter just incase you need some help?

Not sure if I'd want to do 45mph on my Taishan, might give it a go one day.

How can you do 45mph when the speedo simply say's 40mph? I would like to de-restrict my Taishan Commuter but I hesitate to due to the fact that I do not want to f**k it up and then have to pay out for it. Anyone got serious help which will guarentee a successful de-restriction?
What is the restricted speed to be precise?

A speedo has nothing to do with how fast the engine can go, just because it says 40mph max on the dial it doesn't mean it can't go faster. You won't mess up the engine, in all honesty restricting any engine to 30mph probably does more harm than good as occasionally an engine needs to stretch its legs but if it's restricted then obviously it can't. Have you seen the topic about derestricting a Baotian? They have the same engine so if you're mechanically minded give that a go - it doesn't look too difficult.

I made my taishan go about 36mph now, and also accelerates ALOT faster. What I did was open the seat, open the cover at bottom. Now you are looking at the engine, there is a circle plastic cover with 2 screws, open this and there is a think circlur rubber washer type thing. Just take this out. Much better

Much better I tried that on mine and when you take off the black circular bit there was a spring which got me scared so I put it all back together. Did I undo the correct bit?

Yeah it is the part with the spring. Funny thing is though I lost that spring. But I dont think it really does much, there is a screw that comes out the underside of the cap and a rubber washer type thing, just remove that.

Stop tempting me to do it!! One half of me say's "yeah do it" while the other half say's "it's against the law as I don't have the correct license".

If your license only allows you to ride a 50cc or under then you won't have the correct license to ride the bike. Hopefully that makes sense?

whats the number plate light got to do with anything? Is it legal to have no number plate light provided your scooter is unrestricted then?
