Yes, the brass thing you mention, if it's on the underside of the cap, just remove it, as you do count how many turns it takes to remove, that will allow the needle to rise further allowing more fuel in. Don't throw it away! if things seem to be worse put it back in (screw it in the right number of turns, remembered from taking it out!)
As regards the pink wire, my scoot is only 2 weeks old and the pink wire makes the world of difference! However I did notice, on my certificate of conformity, the date was November 2004! so you could be right. It would be nice to know the date from your certificate. I think this date could be the true age of the bike!

Have looked again - was wrong regarding needle - was under plastic cover - have lifted needle up 2 notches which should allow more fuel through (hopefully not make it to rich). Will make sure this is okay for few days and then remove brass "thingy" counting number of screws in !!
Checked certificate of EEC conformity and date is 25th February 2005 - presumably date off of production line :

Have removed brass "spacer" and lifted needle 2 notches as above and the scooter is now accelerating much faster and speed gone up buy about 5 mph. Seems that this mode l(Feb 2005) may be restricted by the brass "spacer" below the carb "top" limiting hoe far the needle lifts in the CV carb (?) as famous "pink wire" is not connected

That's good news but shouldn't you be able to do over 40mph now?

ok i cut the pink wire yesturday on my baotian (didn't go with removing the panels as found it too hard and didn't want to break them), can i just leave it at that it does seem to accelerate a bit faster but haven't really given it a good run yet, or should i do the other things as well cheers jules

the pink is to stop you going above a certain RPM (revs per min) by cutting it it will alow the bike to rev higher (only a little)
thats all the pink wire does

Whilst I am still trying to run my Baotian in, (when the back pain, and sleepy tablets allow), I noticed that as I was riding along that the engine was faltering, as if it was not getting enough fuel. I was just about to pull in to check what the problem was, when I noticed that the speedo was reading 45 kph, so the CDI electronics unit was presumably keeping the scooter legal by restricting the speed to below 45 kph. As I was driving up an incline at that time, it never occurred to me that I would be reaching that sort of speed, especially as I was trying to be so good with the running in process, so as others have said, the pink wire will probably be just an electronic speed control, (a bit like a cruise control), and the carb adjustments will be the real engine power adjustments.

This is a posting I posted a few days ago. It may clear a few things up for people
"By the way, I have discovered what the pink wire is for. Inside the engine cover on the left side (the cover to the Variator and clutch) there is a magnetic sensor that detects the RPM of the back wheel (and therfore actual speed). This info is sent down the Pink wire to the CDI, which will electronically limit road speed. If you disconnect the pink wire, the CDI doesn't know how fast you are going, in fact it thinks you are stood still!"
See earlier posting for pics.

Unfortunately even derestricting won't stop the scooter from crawling up hills as all derestricting does is to give you a higher top-end speed. What will help is when you approach a hill really give it some welly so you're doing around 45mph and then you won't slow down quite so much.

be interesting to know how your blaster copes with the hills phil jules Someone said on here their mate has got one and it doesn't slow down up hills which is one thing I'm looking forward to. Once it's done a few hundred miles I'll get it derestricted so it'll do about 55mph max.

for people looking to get up hills a bit quicker on there chinese scooters, then do what hypojam did and put 4 gram rollers in, as it boosts the performance alot. i ahvent done it yet as im still waiting for my ped to run in, it would be nice to see someone else do it as well
