i'm sure its not the engine, i would just check if brakes are dragging and wheels spinning freely it doesnt take much to slow these little engines, when i first built mine(delivered in crate)it went well right out of the box, went even better when front wheel was spinning properly, dont know what else to suggest at minute.

After 600 miles your bike should be run in enough, I've noticed with my Taishan that it gets to 30mph a lot quicker than it used to now I've got more miles on the clock - approx. 350.

how does derestricting affect the MPG

It won't affect the MPG unless you ride around at 45mph all the time meaning the faster you go the more petrol you'll use.

I've just de-restricted my Baotian, based on the advice given. Cut the pink wire, and covered the ends. Adjusted the washer on the pin, inside the carb. Although not much different, the bike does have a bit more OOMPH to it. Must be summat else to do as well. I'll try the exhaust next.....

Try riding down a hill. There was somebody else on here who only saw a 5mph increase in top-end speed so go out later and give it a good thrashing - if you can't get over 40mph then there's still bits left to do....

Hi i was doing this derestriction which i followed but as i was putting the cover back on the carb i slipped and the spring shot up in the air and that made the washer on the pin fall off,i have looked every where to find it but have lost it and now the bike only does 15mph tops does anyone no where to get a new washer or does someone have a solution?

When i tried deristricting myne i found it went faster up hills but no matter where i took it the ped would just get stukk at 37mph. I put the brass screw from under the cap bk and it has gone bk to normal. Do about 34mph on straight.

Well done fella's. After reading your posts I couldn't wait to get my hands dirty under the hood of me pedd !!!! I just disconnected the pink wire from the plastic block(socket), started her up and she purred like a baby. Then under the seat I took off the top of the carb and adjusted the pin & took off the copper screw on the lid of the carb. I couldn't wait to test her out............................. She used to take ages to get to the 20's, and didn't go over 33mph. But I found I was doing 20mph at a instant & I managed to get about 40mph on a straight, & down hill, well off the speedo. "I LOVE IT !" I couldn't of done it without you guys. I used to get shown up by the PizzaHut delivery guy, now I can show those cars who's boss on the roads I don't think i'll try this gear thingie....... I took a look at it and I see how its done but the maths don't workout in my head. Looking at it makes me think it will go slower, and I don't want any of that.
