Sup, I have the 2005 model from e-bay, and I was just wondering if any one has derestricted it.
I opened the seat and found ALOT of things, trying to find a needle but couldnt see one, so can anyone post pictures and stuff?
Thanks,
Shane Stocks.

Welcome aboard Stocko!! There's a few topics about this already but I don't think anyone has got the guts to try it. Perhaps you could be the first? ;D Here's a quote from another topic: De-restricting a Baotian BT50
If you want to derestrict your Baotian, open the seat, remove cover at bottom, remove carb cover (2 screws), undo brass piece in carb cover. Job done!

Okay, I undid my seat, and there is alot of black lids Phil!
I found a circuler one on top of everything, I undid this, and there was a golden screw, I took that out, but then my ped wont start so I put it back in.
I cant seem to find this needle everyone is talking about.

It's no good asking me as I tried derestricting my Taishan based on stuff I'd read on here but when I undid the cover none of it made any sense. I'm sure there was someone with a Baotian who'd derestricted theirs - I'll have a trawl through some topics and see if I can find out who....

If he can do it can you please please please take some step-by-step photo's and post them on here as loads of people want to derestrict their bikes (me included) but we're not too sure how.
A-ha, it was Fruitman who's done it. Here's a post from him:
I have recently derestricted my Boatian 50,this is what to do.Next to were the battery is stored is a little black box with different coloured leads coming out of it,snip the pink lead and cover one end so it does not make contact again.Next lift up the seat and undo the black cover, you are now looking down on top of the carb.Undo the two little screws and take off this black cover on the underside of this cover is a brass screw, undo, and remove. On top of the carb is a thin rubber cover lift off GENTLY to reveal a long thin pin, lift this out and at the top of this pin you will see five small grooves pull off the thin washer off the top groove CAREFULLY and replace on the centre groove, which is the third groove up from the bottom now put it all back together you should now have better acceleration and a better top end speed.Good luck...

Here is a few pics to help along all you Boatian owners gagging to derestrict their scooters. These are all tips I've gathered up from other sites and decided to ave a go myself, and it worked ok. First the pink wire trick. Now undo the cover under the seat to reveal the carb. Now undo the two screws and lift off the black cover and unscrew the brass screw on the underside of this cover and remove. Now take out the long spring and lift out the rubber cover which contains the long thin pin that you have to adjust.Pull off the small clip washer at the end of the pin and push back onto the third groove down (middle) Thats all there is to it.......

I wonder if that'll work for Taishans as that's pretty much what I saw when I undid my carb cover. Hmmm, that's got me thinking.... ;D FRUITMAN: I'm going to start a new topic in the Hints, Tips & DIY section using your pics so that the next person who asks how to derestric a Baotian can have a look instead of trawling through half a dozen topics. I'll give you full credit!! EDIT: Guide now up in the Hints, Tips & DIY section.

Right, did this and you get a speed increase of 5MPH, totalling 35MPH, and acceleration is increased, but this leads me to believe there is another restriction somewere.
My mate said its probably the throttle, any idea on how to de-restrict the throttle?

My mate said its probably the throttle, any idea on how to de-restrict the throttle? Has your bike got quite a few miles on the clock yet? I'm just wondering if your scooter is fairly new then the engine might need time to loosen up, with my Taishan I can easily get to 30mph (downhill and with the wind behind me) but when it was new it would only reach 25mph. As you've got some increase in top-end speed we're going along the right lines!!

Ive done 500 miles on it, there is definately another restriction somewere because the engine being new wouldnt stop me going 10 miles! Apparently there is a washer in the varient, which stops me from going top gear. Wondering why my throttle isnt powerful at the 3/4 bit.

Yes my top end speed increased by 5 mph and my acceleration is a lot better, i like to know if you find any more info about adjusting the varient

Fruitman, this is were I got the information on, just scroll down the page about the Varient. www.flexistentialist.org/archives/2003/10/index.shtmlIt says a washer is stopping us from going a gear, which when removed should get the bike to around 45-50MPH. I'll try it tomorrow but you can do it today and tell us how much improvement if ya want.
