I got confirmation of my Reg number today, so i've been to the local motorcycle shop and ordered my plate which I'll get this afternoon. Its seems like ages ago I got my scooter, but it has taken 23 days, not too bad. ;D

Well done Steve.
I got mine registered more or less straight away, but I have still only been able to do about 30k due to ongoing medical problems.
When I went for my number plate, they made it up in front of me. It only involved sticking black pvc numbers and letters on a thick plastic sheet, adding a yellow background, and running it through a set of rolllers to get out the air bubbles.

Did you have to show ID and proof of registration?

Well done Stevie!! It took me around 4 weeks before getting my bike on the road so I know how you feel. It took the guy 5 minutes to make my plate, he asked if I wanted to leave and come back for it but after waiting that long I couldn't bear the thought of having to come back a few hours later. I only showed my DVLA reg document and my driving license when I got my plate done.

Did you have to show ID and proof of registration? I had to show a form V948 (Certificate of Registration), which was given to me by the DVLA, and my driving license.

You've not been on it because of football? Get out there and enjoy it, there's more to life than football.

OH YES!! I only did 24k, down the A31 and back, but it felt gooood . I kept singing to myself "why should I care, why should I care...out of my brain on the 5.15". I had to make a consious effort to keep it below 30, as it is new and restrictwed anyway, but it kept creeping up to 35-40.

i had an argument with the bloke in the shop i went to get my number plate as i had the document from the DVLA and my drivers licence, but they said because it wasn't a photo license (i have the old paper one as haven't needed to change it) they wouldn't do it, i argued for a while and eventually they did it.

Have you ever watched Quadrophenia? There's a song at the end where Jimmy is riding his scooter close to the cliff's edge and I kept singing that the first few times I went out. To get your scooter run in quicker put it up on the stand and rev it so the rear wheel is turning, that's what I did. It'll make the engine work without putting too much strain on it.

he was telling me that the old paper licenses were no longer valid and everyone had to have a photo one, so i said why hadn't the dvla notified me of this and provided me with a photo one, i don't see why i should have it changed especially. it didn't help that he only looked 10years old jules

As far as I am aware, you can ask for a photo licence, but you have to pay for it.
They were given as a replacement automatically, at a nominal price, if you changed any of your licence details, or your address, but I am not sure how these costs now compare.
There is talk of including your driving licence, and your passport, in with the ID cards, if they ever appear, but I doubt that this will now happen, as the idea of ID cards seem to be being placed at the back of the filing cabinet, hoping no one will ever find it again.
