Hey guys, I thought I'd let you in on my latest project - a 1980 Vespa Si. Since the Chinese scooter is working well again I needed a new toy, so I got a real moped nearly complete for $61 on ebay. This is the ebay pic These are the before cleaning pics: So far I'v pretty much stripped everything from the bike and cleaned it. The wiring is somewhat messy, and I still have to find out if it runs!

It's a Ford Explorer, it is perhaps the most common SUV in america.

American Cars Are HUGE

hahaha, in America my jimmy is considered a "minitruck". Ford makes 2 SUVs that are larger than the explorer, the expedition and the even larger excursion. They aren't so popular anymore because of gas prices. Here in Michigan it is so snowy in the wintertime that you sometimes can't get around without 4 wheel drive. I would not let my girlfriend get a vehicle that didn't have at least all wheel drive, so she got a subaru Legacy AWD.
Though larger cars do not brake as well, they fair a lot better in collisions than small european collisions do... People feel safer in bigger cars even if it means they'll have to pay some extra bucks each year for gas.

Give me a turbo charged japanese car anyday! Japanese cars are nice, but when it comes to bumper deep snow, I will take my Jeep Cherokee every time. And thats my bumper, not yours .

Hey guys, I got the vespa running! I found out the breaker points needed adjusting because they were completely closed! The previous owner spent over $100 to get it running but couldn't get it going. I feel happy, but it only goes about 20mph which is too slow.

Keep your 4 wheel drives this will waste anything in the snow.

In the US there is a huge group called the moped army. They restore old mopeds like these and form gangs and such. Scooters are not allowed into the groups, just mopeds (with pedals). The Puch Maxi is probably the most famous moped on that forum, and people have gotten them pretty fast! There is also Tomos, Vespa, Motobecane, Mobylette, Sachs, etc... I'm hoping to go to one of their rallies in Kalamazoo as soon as the vespa is in legal condition. I've learned a lot about moped and scooters from their very active forum: www.mopedarmy.comThey diss chinese scooters for the most part, but you know I have the background to defend my scoot, and I do when I can. This is a very organized and active group, check it out!
