They shouldn't need to check your bike. The certificate of conformity that came with your bike (the little green card in a re-seal bag), clearly states that "it meets all EC standards and can be registered without further testing", Now unless the government pulled out of the EC while I wasn't looking, This Certificate should be proof that it meets DVLA standards.
We all know the DVLA don't know their butt from a hole in the ground, so you have to point out to them that you already have the proof it meets ALL EC standards. If you get no joy from the monkey on the desk ask to speak to the supervisor/manager.
I got my Baotian from the same place as you (pitbike4all), and mine didn't need to be checked over. I just turned up at Sheffield DVLA, handed over all the paper work that came with the bike, £58, my insurance policy, and that was it! I was in and out in 10 mins! Two days later my reg. number and tax disc turned up, got a plate made, and on the road I was!
After reading a few peoples DVLA nightmares on this forum, it seems you just need to be a little forceful

So they're asking for it to be tested?

It just seems that the DVLA are very inconsistant with the way they treat new registrations!
This doesn't help when all you want to do is get your scooter registered.
You will have to let us know how things progress.

There seems to be a time limit on when a machine can be registered without requiring checking, ( i think it is 2 weeks), this is to try and make sure it is still a new vehicle, and why I registered mine as soon as I got it. This time limit starts from when the scooter was purchased from the supplier, and not from the imported date. It would be interesting to know if these scooters that are over 2 weeks from purchase, are the same ones that are being called in for checks.

This could be the case, however when I registered mine, although it was within two weeks of purchase, the DVLA had no way of knowing this as I never showed them a receipt or bill of sale. The only info they had was what I had written my self on the import papers, that were blank when I got them, apart from the importers signature!
I would be a good tip for people registering, to get it done as soon as possible! it may be the way to avoid this problem.

I don't know if it just my branch of DVLA but they reckoned it standard procedure (spelling sorry) they need to check the chassis same as the import letters. its ok got it all sorted, but if it isn't just my branch don't think you can take your bike the same day as you registar... you have to take it a day after. My registration etc comes on monday so it all worked out ok.

I used pitbike4all, (Cannon2), as did quite a few others on here, with no problems encountered, so the DVLA might have a list of 'reputable' importers who they know carry out the correct paperwork.
