have a bit of a problem with the headlight on my taishan commuter. have noticed that it is dim when the bikes revved up but shines brightly when its idling. it failed the mot last week, one of the things being the headlight beam was too high, so have been trying to sort it out, thats when we noticed how strange the headlight works. have checked all the wiring so dont think its that. any ideas? thanks.

yes, they both work well when idling, but hardly at all when you rev her up.

I wonder if the engine vibes are loosening one of the famous wiring connectors?

I wonder if its a simple thing like having a flat battery and when you rev up all the powers going to the battery not your lights?

There is maybe, and its a long shot at a guess but is it possible the battery is connected the wrong way around... red positive wire should go to + the Black wire should go to - or negative.. go have a look. remember, its only a guess. Only trying to help.

I'd go with jialings 1st option, bad earth. Undo you battery connections 1st. Take off/undo every cable that is bolted in a cluster to the frame, mine is on the mainstand frame, you will have to trace yours, its easy enough though. These are all the main earthings from the magneto, lights, battery etc. Clean with emery cloth or file all the contact faces on the tags and frame, and bolt up again, replacing the nut & bolt with a brass ones if possible. Have a good look under the seat box at all the other leads and cable that have been bolted to ohter parts of the frame and do the same, finally cleean the battery leads and terminals as well. Grease or vasaline all of the connection you have cleaned, I'm faily sure this will cure the problem of your lighting power gowing straight to earth. If not, look more closely at the lighting wireing, this could be teadious, and check for chafing or broken connections especially near to/against the frame.

well said enu electrical problems are never easy to solve especially when they are on another persons moped miles away. An inexpensive little gadget anyone can make is a 12 or 6 volt bulb with a crocodile clip attached to wire soldered onto the body of the bulb on one end. Then solder another wire onto the connection on the base of the bulb. If there's a break in the wiring loom the bulb fails to light up. Handy little tool, there are things like this ready made and cheap. That together with a cheap meter can help solve many electrical problems. But you are right in what you say clean all contacts it may well of been a bad connection right from the start.

Could be you volt regulator.
If yrou have a multi meter set it to DC with the scooter running connect tothe battery terminal and see waht voltage it going to the battery both at idle and with a bit of throttle.
Now if you are lucky enough to have an earth tester thenchecking the earth should be no probs.
If like me you do not then good luck as finding the earth points is difficult.
I have had the cover of my headset a few time and did not notice anything erathing there.
I din't know where you live but you if you can't get to Watford then you could call Andy Stoker on 01923-231421 and he might be able to advise.http://www.avsco.co.uk/
Tell him that Chris in Watford with the Blue Taisham Commuter recommended you to him as he does not know me as Soulie007.
Please let us know how you get on.

I also have a similar problem on a Baotian. When the bike is started the head lamp & rear light nearly bright, but with a few revs it go's dim (nearly out). If I press the brake the headlamp brightens, but go's dim again when I stop braking. I have changed the Voltage Stabilizer but that did not do anything. Please Help
