Hi,
Bought the wife a taishan sport for her to go to work on, had a few problems registering it, but now it's on the road.
She doesn't need it to be speedy & I know it will losen after a few hundred miles, but when going up hill it struggles quite bad.
Any way, I attempted to de-restrict it, but when I tried to undo the scews to remove the cap off of the carb, one of them 'rounded off'. How can I remove the screw??

well thats a slight problem. You could drill the screw out and then replace it with new one. Im not really sure how to remove chewed up screws

Welcome aboard chap!! To be honest derestriction won't cure the up hill struggle, all it'll do is give you a greater top speed. The one good thing about having a greater top speed is your missus will be able to speed up just before the hill meaning she won't slow down quite so much if you see what I mean?

Thanks for the comments.
I think I'll let the engine loosen up for a few hundred miles & then if its still slow, I'll take it to my local mechanic to sort the screw out.
Not really bothered too much, she only goes about 3 miles to work & thats all she uses it for!
The rear indicator stoped working yesterday, bit of a job changing the bulb, if anyone else has done it, you'll know what I mean!! - I thought I was going to break to light cluster removing it. All done in the end though - 49p - who says these scooters are expensive to maintain.
I'll be sorting out the exhaust soon too (after reading your thread), it's already discoloured & starting to show signs of corrosion. Great site, glad I stumbled accross it!

You could sort the screw out by using a hacksaw to saw a groove in the screw head, then use a flat blade screw driver to undo it, the screw will probably need replacing but it is a way of getting it out. Also if you do this, before you remove the top of the carb, make sure there are no metal fillings around that could fall inside and ruin the carb, That really would be a bad day!

Hey, I'm a girlie with a Boatian travelling a few miles to work too like your wife, and the best thing up the hill is a long run at it! I'm also trying to replace my headlight bulb but when you take the unit off the bulb doesn't fit through the hole?! How weird is that? I must be doing something wrong... Happy scootering!

No run-up to the hill possible, there's a mini round-a-bout where she has to turn right & then the hill starts straight away.
I suggested she lose weight - I'm still suffering with concussion!! LOL

I remember doing a long journey (about 15 miles) on my Taishan along a 50mph limit road but it was quite twisty so nobody could pass. I kept looking in my mirrors and there were cars queued behind me for what seemed like miles. Eventually I had to pull over to let them past. ;D

You have to rotate the bulb so that the grooves line up with the housing so it can be removed. I had to special order a new lightbulb from geelyparts.net because it could not be found in auto stores.
