i have been nipping around on my retro style baotian for around 5 months now and i now have a problem. The other day as i left my house the bike just seemed to slow down the futher i went and it has no power to get up a curb up hills it went 5mph if that and was gilting about, my only idea is that they may be some dirt in the carb stopping fuel getting into the engine. Could anyone help me with any suggestions on what i should do?

take your carb off and check for dirt in the float bowl. have you done any mods? As for valve cearances - if they were a mile off it wouldnt effect performance this much, listen to the old Ford Fiesta!!

The emission system has failed.
Look for the little box attached to the exhaust, with the rubber pipe going to the airbox.
Before dismatling, just start the engine, squeeze the pipe between your fingers to block it and if the engine changes speed (i.e. ticks over faster) the reed valve has gone.
Easiest fix is to block the rubber tube (disconnect it and stick a bolt in it, jubilee clip around the pipe to hold it in place, then put it back together)
I don't why peope say check valves (involves taking bits of) and cleaning carb (involves taking bit's off) before saying squeeze a pipe.
Always do the easiest check first!!

If it was a 2stroke I'd say check the exhaust. Very common for them to get blocked up

totally offtopic - be glad it lasted 5 months. people have returned their beasts after few days of ownership, due mechanical failures. these things werent made to last.

Sorry for my bad English, but did you check that rubber thing in the carburettor? Sounds as if it was porous to me.
