Following on from my thread regarding my scooter hessitating and cutting out, I thought I might try and give the carb a clean. I have had a search but can't find any info on how to do this. Any instructions or tips?

Its fairly easy. You can find a good diagram of the carb in the service manual. I did it without ever touching a carb before.

If you have tools and are mechanically inclined it should be no problem. Just make sure you have a clean work space with plenty of table surface area, lots of time and patience, dont force any thing and dont get in a hurry.

If you are cleaning up a carb, compressed air is your best friend..if you don't have compressor, next best things is fuel. Don't use any chemical, that's not usually going inside the carb while cleaning it, it's supposed to be chorrosive and might even reset the cleaning process by blocking the carb again. When you open the carb, be sure to use screwdriver that's right size, otherwise you will end up rendering the caps of the screws useless and making the carb very hard to open again. Like said, good diagram is essential, if you have never opened a carb, but if you can hold a screwdriver, you can prolly clean a carb.

TIP: If you are not sure you have the confidence to put a component back to-gether after you take it off/apart take loads of pictures during the takeoff/strip down procceedure, either with a digi cam or phone. That way you have a working record, and, if you can work out how to put them on here as well. you may help some-one else out too.
