I apologize in advance for my newbie questions - i only have a small knowledge of engines, and don't work with them often.
I took a few hours today (since i don't need it til monday) and stripped my 2-stroke XSJ50QT-2 down to expose its innards. These are the pictures i got:
You can see the thick layer of oily sludge all on the engine block. I'm not entirely sure how i'm going to clean it, but i will while i have it ope....
I pulled the spark plug (since i'm going to replace that) and noticedit was covered in a red film. This didn't fit any category in the spark-plug chart that i saw - any thoughts?
I tried to take the cover off the gears (second pic) to see if there was a gear restriction, but neither me nor my 19V drill could budge those darn screws to get it off. Any clues, or do i just need a 'bigger tool'? I'm afraid a bigger tool will just strip them out...
Also, you can see from the first picture that the carburator is pretty small - do you think that has the screw/washer restrictions?
Finally, the idle seems to be a bit low - after riding the bike a while, it seems on the verge of stalling out when i stop (it has a couple times), which, riding at night, makes it interesting since the headlights are powered by the engine only. If nothign else, I would like to idle it higher so the lights don't dim so drasticly at stop signs and lights. Does anyone know which screw would do that for me?
thanks for you time in helping me with this! I hope to have this scoot restored to better-than-new by the time i'm done with it
