Hi all. Does anyone here have information (good or bad) about electric scooters? Thinking of getting myself a 'YADI' the type without any pedals. It will be a 500 watt of the lead acid type, also what is the law requirements regarding road tax, and insurance. I live on a small Scottish island so would not need it to travel more than a few miles and an mot would never be needed. Looking forward to your answers. John.

its only with some of the larger petrol scooters that they sometimes require insurnace. But electric ones should be fine

There seems to be a grey area of thought here and elsewhere, some people have told me that without pedals it would be classed as a regular scooter but, you never see pedals on a invalid scooter. Keep your thoughts coming, and thanks to Richc and Browny.

It used to be classified as whether or not it had pedals but they then had to change it when the small petrol scooters came out shortly after the electric ones. There is a engine size you are allowed up to but im not what it is now. If i come across it ill post it here

I was going to buy an electric one like that as i only go 5 kms to the station from home everyday. Slight inclines of about 100mtrs up on the way home, down on the way to. I went to internet bike shop for a look at them (they sell electric and petrol). ....they advised me against them. Said that as an adult my size, 100kgs it would be very slow and i'd get frustrated. The hills would be particularly bad. They said the 50cc is a beter bet and emmissions are negligible. I took the advice. I now know someone who has an electric, it sits in the garage gathering dust for the same reasons.
