If it looks bald - change it. Simple as that.

Its not how many miles but tread depth. Even though the lrgal depth is 1.0mm on scotters it is recommended you change them as soon as they get below 1.5mm to ensure a proepr grip on the road. Mine are still very deep so im happy as larry. for now, my long u-turn skids will soon catch up to me.....

I think Hypojam is correct. but for restricted 50cc's, the tread must be visible, that's all.

The legal tread is alot lower for 50cc's and the instructer said to our group that you would get away with a 1mm as it is visible but anything less than that will wear away quicky and then your in danger of havung illegal tires and falling off your bike.

Yeh I was told by my CBT instructor and the mechanic that did my MOT that it only had to be visible tread, but of course its reccomended to change them before they get that low.

'Visible tread' sounded a bit vague for a legal definition of tyre tread depth on mopeds, so I have just done a search to check it out, and indeed it is described as visible tread on the Highyway Code web site, (see following link), with motorcycles at 1mm, and cars etc at 1.6mm www.highwaycode.gov.uk/28.htm
