hi, i have a taishan commuter 2 stroke, won from ebay knowing it needed tuning. today got the magneto from partsforscooters.com. fast delivery, well packaged. fitted on no problem, but still the scooter wont start! have tried electrics, plus kickstart. with kickstart it doesnt even seem to bite!, new spark plug, checked the carburetor, which looks clean. have no valves to check as its a 2 stroke,no kinks in the air or fuel pipes, but the spark doesnt seem to get wet. am running out of hair and ideas, any help would be so nice, just want me bike on the road! thanks

This may seem like a silly question... Do you have it on the main stand?

woohoo! got it going at last! found out that the gasket between the carb and engine was broke, letting in a little air, rectified that thanks to a local motor discount store. set the timing now so it doesnt stall once you let go of the throttle. the headlight works now,but.......... as its 2 stroke need to add oil everytime i fill up. how much oil should i mix with every litre of petrol? is it best to mix in a container or straight in the tank? should the rear brake light work of the front brake? as my brake light only works when the left brake is on. hoping on having it ready for a MOT by the end of the week. one other problem i have, snapped the key in half while trying to mend the saddle lock! now is the time i wish i had a spare!

Not sure on these 2 strokes, but most modern bikes have a separate tank for the oil, and a pump that mixes it in the carb, so as to eliminate plug fouling. Check this out. Your brake light should work from either/both levers. All of these bike lights seem to work only when the ignition is turned on or with some only when the engine runs. You cant even turn on a parking light with the ignition key out!

You should have a small clear oil tank in the under seat compartment
