Just filled my scooter with shell optimax yesterday, and it made such a differnce, ti now gets to 35mph a lot quicker and it stays there, also it is a lot quicker going up hills, defintly recomended and it only cost 24p extra to fill the tank

Are u sure the wind wasnt behind you Optimax has a higher octane rating thats about it, it would help in high performance engines, but a little 50cc scooter i couldnt tell any difference between the fuels

I found mine a bit more responsive with Optimax. Not massive amounts though

Should have gone to Specsavers!!
Anyway, I was going to try the Shell Optimax next time I fill up, but it takes that bloody long to run the bike out of fuel, it will be a couple of weeks yet!
Even though it is only a 50cc, it should still benefit from the extra power provided by the higher octane fuel, the question is how much? and would it be noticeable? The higher octane fuel is better for the engine anyway, it has to work less to produce the same output, meaning the engine runs a little cooler. This extends the life of the engine, which can only be a good thing.
I was also thinking of using a petrol additive octane boost, Millers Oils for example. Has anyone had a go at using an additive in their fuel?

Someone was talking about additives on the Scooter-World forum and one guy said they're good to use occasionally but you shouldn't use them all the time.

They say there's no fuel like an old fuel, so I have just bought a few gallons of Q8

I normally use Jet fuel in mine. (That's fuel from the Jet filling station, not avaition fuel!) and it seems to run OK. I have noticed over the years that some cheaper garages have lower grade fuel, I suppose it comes back to the old saying, 'You get what you pay for'

I've used Optimax for a few fills in the last 3 cars I've owned and I only noticed a difference in one car and that was the one with the smallest engine.

I put Optimax in my Astra SRi last week, never again, car became completely uncontrollable, wheel spinning in ever gear, eventually hit top speed of 230mph on M6, before filling with optimax it would only do 135mph, you must try it......

So all it does is reset the speedometer from mph to kph

A higher octane rating does not mean that the fuel contains more energy or will automatically give more power- it just means that it's more resistant to detonation ("knocking" or "pinking"). I would not expect it to give a significant increase in performance in a simple scooter engine unless the engine is badly adjusted in some way to start with. I would imagine that the scooters are supplied set up to run on some pretty ropey fuel (shouldn't think that Chinese petrol is all that super-dooper) so they should be fine and dandy on any bog-standard 95RON unleaded.

Super unleaded or optimax dose give u a slight increase of top speed but more importantly its able to achieve its top speed more easily than standard unleaded. It also prolongs the life of your engine, exhaust etc... or so they say on another forum

As I said, there's no reason why it would perform better in a simple scooter engine. If the engine had a knock sensor it might make a difference, but it doesn't.
Don't always believe internet hearsay;).
