If you are refering to the 'Regular maintenance' section of the User Manual. I think it just means check cylinder head, cylinder, and exhaust bolts.

It is the "Shield" that covers one side of the exhaust...........i think.

The only bit I can think of is the chrome guard but surely that's not what you're on about?

Ive just check to huge tome, that is my users guide, and yes, that guard is the muffler!!

Congratulations!! Going back to this muffler I regularly polish mine with Teek which is a metal polish you can buy from Halfords for about a fiver. No rust yet.

so i take it you dont have to do anything thank you all for your input Well what do you mean about doing anything? Are you trying to replace yours or are you asking how to maintain it? Like I said to keep mine in tip-top condition I just polish it with Teek.

Muffler is what Americans call a silencer, so I'm pretty sure it means check bolt tightness on cylinder head, cylinder, and silencer, as these are all directly connected components.
