Thanks to Paul W for providing this info: Hi All Some info on de-restricting the Taishan Commuter scooter, this is for 2005 models with model number ts50qt-4. The restriction is in the carburettor, remove the black cap held by 2 brass screws, you will see beneath the cap a plastic nipple and screw, remove the screw, also you will see a large thick rubber washer, this needs to be removed as well. That is the only restriction placed on this model of scooter, there is no pink wire fix, no variator washer on the drive wheel etc, this info from Taishan UK! Please note this information is given for information only, as riding a de-restricted scooter on moped insurance is illegal as you are no doubt aware, therefore this had to be said.

The screw you say to remove, are you talking about the one on the other side of the plastic cap you remove to get into the carb, or the long thin pin like screw under the white plastic cap holder? Also what is the long thin screw for?

Also, inside the carb is a metal spring, I was wondering what this does because when I first opened the carb I lost the spring and have been riding without it and there dont seem to be any difference. Does anyone know what it is for?

The spring obviously doesn't do anything mechanical, I can't really think what it does except when you remove the 2 screws it springs the carb top up.

I removed my complete carb today and my top speed jumped from 33 to 35mph, must be the weight reduction, I'm gonna try removing the engine tomorrow......................?
